#Maui Traffic Accident

Authorities say the vehicles were traveling at around 50 mph at the time of impact. Two individuals were transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries following a morning accident that forced the temporary closure of the Honoapiilani Highway (Hwy 30) during the morning commute.

Witnesses told response crews that the individual was sitting on a mattress that was in the back of the pickup when a gust of wind caught the mattress and blew both it and the patient out of the rear of the truck.

Three men ranging in age from 18 to 20 were transported to the hospital in stable condition after the jeep they were in rolled over and down a 30 foot embankment near the old Maui High School.

Medic 6 from Hana was dispatched to Keanini Road in Hana for reports of a male party that had been struck by a vehicle, officials said.

Police said Walter Vierra, 43, of Wailuku, was arrested today on suspicion of negligent homicide in the first degree and suspicion of accidents involving serious bodily injury or death.

UPDATE: 7:45 a.m. 7/31/12: The Mokulele Highway is now completely OPEN in both directions. The road was closed in the Kahului-bound direction earlier today because of a traffic accident reported at around 5:30 a.m. fronting the Central Maui Baseyard.

Authorities have since identified the man as John Boyd Krause, 19, of Hāna, Maui. The accident was reported at 5:38 a.m. on Sunday, June 3, along the highway just south of Kakio Road in the Hāna district near Hāmoa.

Five individuals suffered fatal injuries in a Sunday morning accident on the Kula Highway, according to Maui Police. The accident forced the closure of Kula Highway at 6:36 a.m. (on Sunday, March 25, 2012), while police conducted an investigation.

Maui police say a man who died at the scene of an early morning crash in Makena did not die as a result of the crash. Authorities have since identified the man as 61-year-old Bernardo Ragamat.

Maui police have identified the male pedestrian killed in an afternoon traffic accident on the Mokulele Highway on Christmas Eve as 17-year-old Zachariah Aubut.

As of 4:23 p.m., the Mokulele Highway was completely open in both directions. Maui police had closed the Kahului-bound lanes for about three-and-a-half hours while they conducted an investigation into a fatal traffic accident near the Maui Raceway Park on the Mokulele Highway. A portion of Baldwin Avenue is closed this afternoon following a traffic accident that downed cable lines in the area. At 2:20 p.m., on Wednesday, October 5, Maui Police closed Baldwin Avenue between Kaluanui Road and Makawao Avenue.

Authorities have since identified the woman as Rachelle Kibbee, 29, of Kula. The accident was reported at 2 p.m. on Friday, September 23, in an area of the highway located East of mile post 17.

The road is now OPEN. Traffic is expected to take a while to resume its normal flow following a traffic accident reported at around 11:39 a.m. fronting Launiupoko Beach Park on the Honoapiilani Highway.

Maui police have reopened Haliimaile Road following a vehicle accident near the General Store last night. The road was reopened at around 4 a.m. The closure went into effect at 10:15 p.m. Details of the accident are pending release.
