The awards ceremony recognized 15 outstanding 2026 Hawaiʻi high school graduates for their achievements and all-around excellence in academics, athletics, community service, and healthy activities.

The Mamoru and Aiko Takitani Foundation, Inc. has named 10 high school seniors from Maui County as scholarship recipients in its annual Legacy Scholarship Program, winning $37,000 in scholarships.   

All HIDOE public schools on Molokaʻi will be closed Friday, April 10, due to expected severe weather conditions.

More schools were added to the closure list following continued storm impacts from the recent kona low.

As a result of storm impacts and safety concerns, several schools on Hawai‘i Island, O‘ahu and Molokaʻi will be closed on Monday, March 23, or for the week of March 23-27. The following schools are affected: On Molokaʻi: Kaunakakai Elementary School, Kilohana Elementary School, Maunaloa Elementary School, Molokaʻi Middle School, Molokaʻi High School, HIDOE Molokaʻi complex office; On Hawaiʻi Island: Konawaena Middle School, Konawaena High School, Ke Kula ʻO ʻEhunuikaimalino, Waialua Elementary School; On Oʻahu: Waialua High & Intermediate School, Haleʻiwa Elementary School, and Sunset Beach Elementary School.

Molokaʻi High School’s 21,000-square-foot gym, affectionately known as “The Barn,” launched a major upgrade project this month to better serve Molokaʻi’s students, athletes and community.

The first public school commencement on Maui is this coming Sunday, May 18, at War Memorial Stadium for Maui High School; followed by HP Baldwin High School on Monday, May 19; King Kekaulike High at Nā Aliʻi Stadium on Thursday, May 22; and Molokaʻi High School at the Molokaʻi High Gymnasium (The Barn) on Friday, May 23. Next weekend, Lānaʻi and Hāna host graduations on Saturday, May 24. The final public school graduation on Maui is at Lahainaluna High School on Sunday, May 25.

RJ Arconado of Lahainaluna High School was named Top Maui County Scholar, and Ciana Cooper of Maui High School earned the prestigious title of Top Overall Female Scholar in the state. Both students were recognized for their academic achievement, leadership, and commitment to community service.

Two classmates from Maui Waena Intermediate took first and second place in the Grades 5–8 art category.

This year’s Hawaiʻi STEM Conference, organized by Maui Economic Development Board’s (MEDB) STEMworks program, welcomed almost 600 attendees, including over 70 teachers and 300 students in grades 6-12 from all across the state.

UH Maui College Molokaʻi Education Center serves about 150 credit students, 100 non-credit students and about 60 Early College students, high school students who take UH classes and earn college and high school credits.

The Construction Industry of Maui (CIM) today announced it is donating tens of thousands of dollars to Maui County high school construction vocational programs, with the first round of disbursements this month.

Two Maui teachers—Janyce Omura and Richard Ornellas— were honored by the state Judiciary for their work in promoting civic education.  Omura is a graduate of Maui High School who returned to her alma mater as a teacher. A Hawaiian immersion program teacher from Molokaʻi sets sail this week as a Science Communication Fellow in a deep ocean exploration expedition with the Ocean Exploration Trust. Gandharva Mahina Hou Ross, a kumu at Molokaʻi High School’s O Hina I Ka Malama program, joins Ocean Exploration Trust’s (OET) expedition to Jarvis Island, in the US Pacific Remote Islands Marine National Monument, as part of a team of scientists and explorers.

Gandharva Mahina Hou Ross from O Hina I Ka Malama Hawaiian Language Immersion Program at Molokaʻi High School has been selected by Ocean Exploration Trust as a 2024 Science Communication Fellow. Ross, who originally hails from Waialua Manaʻe Molokaʻi, will sail aboard OET’s exploration vessel Nautilus this summer as part of a deep ocean exploration team.
