Kīhei brush fire results in temporary traffic impacts
Update(4:21 p.m., July 9, 2023): Pi’ilani Highway is now OPEN in Kīhei. It was closed earlier in the afternoon due to a brush fire between Ohukai Road and Kūlanihākoʻi Street.
Maui firefighters respond to 20 emergency calls on Fourth of July holiday
Maui Fire Department crews responded to 20 emergency calls for fires over the Fourth of July holiday. The majority of these fires were small brush fires and rubbish bin fires which could be quickly extinguished, according to department reports; however, there were two brush fires that required response from multiple units.
Kīhei Brush Fire Scorches 2.5 Acres N. of Kanani Rd.
The brush fire was first reported at 1:19 p.m. on Saturday, May 29, 2021, in an undeveloped lot between Keala Place and Auhana Road. It burned 2.5 acres of brush before being brought under control.

UPDATE: Fire Crews Battle Brush Fire Near Piʻilani Hwy in South Maui
“There are a lot of large keawe trees in the area that may not be fully extinguished, so crews will be monitoring this evening when it’s easier to see the glow of embers still burning,” said Maui Fire Services Officer Edward Taomoto.
