Maui Arts & Cultural Center presents two free public programs at Schaefer International Gallery in conjunction with the exhibition Keoni of Hawai‘i: Art of the Aloha Shirt.

Maui Arts & Cultural Center’s Schaefer International Gallery will open “Keoni of Hawaiʻi: Art of the Aloha Shirt” on Tuesday, an exhibition tracing the early history of the aloha shirt through the work of designer John “Keoni” Meigs.

The Maui Arts & Cultural Center will present two free public programs this week in conjunction with the Ocean of Peace exhibition, featuring a documentary on deep-sea exploration and an evening of performance art highlighting Micronesian culture.

Maui Arts & Cultural Center announces the latest iteration in its program series, ACTIVATIONS: After Hours at the Gallery. Maui Arts & Cultural Center has announced the winners of the Ruth Freedman People’s Choice Award and Gene Freedman Artists’ Choice Award for Schaefer Portrait Challenge 2025.

Maui artist Challys Pascual has won the Jurors’ Choice Award for the Schaefer Portrait Challenge 2025 at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center.

A signature of Maui Arts and Cultural Center, the Schaefer Portrait Challenge, has been held as a triennial since 2003. This year’s challenge will mark the eighth iteration of this statewide juried exhibition, which presents the unique diversity of the people of the Hawaiian Islands through explorations in portraiture.

A new exhibit will be on display at the Schaefer International Gallery from Nov. 12 through Dec. 28, 2024.

Maui Arts & Cultural Center has announced the third iteration of its new program series, ACTIVATIONS: After Hours at the Gallery.

The annual ArT=Mixx event, a fusion of performing and visual arts, takes place on Saturday, Nov. 16, from 7 to 11 p.m. in the Maui Arts and Cultural Center’s Yokouchi Pavilion and A&B Amphitheater.

Maui Arts & Cultural Center presents Altered Earth in Schaefer International Gallery, an invitational exhibition featuring ten contemporary artists whose work explores the medium of clay and earth-derived materials through a diverse breadth of processes. The invited artists are Clayton Amemiya, Jake Boggs, Jisoo Boggs, Rachelle Dang, Roberta Griffith, Codie M. King, David Kuraoka, Jenna Macy, Sarah Metz, and Brad Evan Taylor. The exhibition runs from Aug. 27 through Oct. 19. The gallery is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free.
