Maui Arts & Cultural Center presents THREE DECADES in Schaefer International Gallery, an exhibition exploring the unique ways that the MACC has come into being as a home for a spectrum of visual and performing arts expression over thirty years. The exhibition runs from April 15 through June 13. The gallery is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free.

Upcoming exhibit features works from Schaefer Portrait Challenge 2025
A signature of Maui Arts and Cultural Center, the Schaefer Portrait Challenge, has been held as a triennial since 2003. This year’s challenge will mark the eighth iteration of this statewide juried exhibition, which presents the unique diversity of the people of the Hawaiian Islands through explorations in portraiture.

Altered Earth: New Exhibit in Schaefer International Gallery, Aug. 27 – Oct. 19, 2024
Maui Arts & Cultural Center presents Altered Earth in Schaefer International Gallery, an invitational exhibition featuring ten contemporary artists whose work explores the medium of clay and earth-derived materials through a diverse breadth of processes. The invited artists are Clayton Amemiya, Jake Boggs, Jisoo Boggs, Rachelle Dang, Roberta Griffith, Codie M. King, David Kuraoka, Jenna Macy, Sarah Metz, and Brad Evan Taylor. The exhibition runs from Aug. 27 through Oct. 19. The gallery is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free.

Call to artists for Schaefer Portrait Challenge 2025 announced
Applications are open for artists 18 years and older, who are residents of the state of Hawai‘i, and want to enter portraits into a statewide juried art exhibition, a signature exhibition of Schaefer International Gallery at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center (MACC), that occurs once every three years.

Maui Arts & Cultural Center presents FOCUS in Schaefer International Gallery, a group exhibition featuring the work of seven contemporary Japanese photographers who go by the collective name Photography? End? The artists include Yuji Hamada, Ken Kitano, Miki Nitadori, Yuki Onodera, Naruki Oshima, Risaku Suzuki, and Kazuyoshi Usui. Their respective avenues of work look at the potentiality of photography in a rapidly evolving digital age, with a diverse range of approaches in material innovation. The exhibition runs from June 15 through Aug. 7. The gallery is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free.
Young Artmakers returns for summer 2024, classes held at Schaefer International Gallery
The Maui Arts & Cultural Center is bringing back its summer visual arts education program, Young Artmakers, at Schaefer International Gallery.
Exhibit of Max Ernst at Schaefer International Gallery home to special event on May 30
The “Max Ernst: Surreal Mindscapes & Characters” exhibit in the Schaefer International Gallery opened April 9 and runs through June 1, 2024. The gallery remains open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free. In addition, the Gallery has announced a free exhibit event on May 30.

The Maui Arts & Cultural Center presents a free screening for the Maui community of the documentary, Bon-Uta in the McCoy Studio Theater Sunday, Jan. 28 at 3 p.m. The event is free to the public but pre-registration online only at MauiArts.org is required beginning at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 9.
