The Maui Planning Commission is scheduled to review land use bills regarding the proposed Hoʻonani Village project near Kahului Airport, as well as legislation regarding accessory dwelling units, agricultural retail structures and electric vehicle charging stations.

Building permits approved for reconstruction of Kahoma Village following Lahaina wildfires

The County of Maui has approved with conditions building permits for Kahoma Village to reconstruct four multi-family buildings totaling 24 units that were destroyed in the August 2023 wildfires. 

Baldwin Beach Park reopens after pavilion removed

Baldwin Beach Park was reopened on Friday, Sept. 27, 2024, after work to remove the park pavilion was completed. The pavilion was irreparably damaged over time by high surf and rising sea levels, according to the County of Maui Department of Parks and Recreation

Planning Department launches expedited SMA exemption process for Lahaina parcels

The County of Maui Department of Planning launched an expedited Special Management Area exemption process for parcels in the Lahaina Disaster Area.  The link went live Thursday, Sept. 19, 2024, and the Planning Department has 20 exemptions in the pipeline. 

Emergency permits in motion to remove Baldwin Beach Park pavilion

The County of Maui Department of Parks and Recreation announced it has applied for emergency Shoreline Management Area permits to remove the Baldwin Beach Park pavilion, which has been damaged over time by high surf and rising sea levels. The structure has been fenced off and the public is asked to avoid the area.
