After nearly 11 months of negotiations, Kaiser Permanente welcomes the ratification of 52 collective bargaining agreements covering more than 61,000 employees represented by unions within the Alliance of Health Care Unions.

After four weeks on strike, nurses and health care professionals represented by the United Nurses Associations of California/Union of Health Care Professionals (UNAC/UHCP)  will return to work Tuesday across Kaiser Permanente facilities in California and Hawai’i. The work stoppage was the largest open-ended strike of registered nurses and health care professionals in United States history, according to the union.  

Kaiser Permanente reports these initiatives represent an investment in the community, offering students from intermediate school to college the chance to gain real-world experience, earn college credit, and explore their passions right here on Maui.

31,000 frontline registered nurses and health care professionals will begin an unfair labor practice (ULP) strike at Kaiser Permanente facilities across California and Hawaiʻi today. The  strike will affect more than two dozen hospitals and hundreds of clinics, including the Moanalua Medical Center on Oʻahu.

Doctors On Call, Maui’s Urgent Care, welcomes Kylie Flickinger as a new provider to its growing staff. Kylie is a PA who is providing both urgent care and family medicine walk-in care at both West Maui (Kāʻanapali) and South Maui (Shops at Wailea) clinics.

The Hawaiʻi Community Foundation, Kaiser Permanente and Maui United Way today announced the formation of the Maui Recovery Funders Collaborative, a pioneering philanthropic network designed to support communities impacted by the 2023 Maui wildfires.

“It feels awesome. I feel exhilarated. I feel happy for our kids. These are great young men that we get to coach,” Kamehameha Maui head coach Ulima Afoa said.

The Kamehameha Schools Maui football team beat Roosevelt 60-26 on Saturday to advance to the Division II state championship game against Kaiser for on Nov. 30 at Mililani High School on Oʻahu.

Maui Health said it has contingency plans in place for a strike and that all facilities will remain open, as talks continue over the three remaining major issues: wages, benefits and staffing.

The clock is ticking on negotiations after the contract for the union that represents about 930 employees of Maui Health expired on Monday night.

Kaiser Permanente Hawaii today announced that Diana “Jill” Riggs, RN, MSN, has been appointed to chief administrative officer and senior vice president of Care Delivery Operations for Hawaii Permanente Medical Group. She replaces Sally Lee, RN, MSN, who is retiring after a 15-year career at Kaiser Permanente.

The volunteers worked at Paeloko Learning Center, a Native Hawaiian education center in Waihe’e that provides hands-on learning opportunities through educational field trips, cultural workshops, and environmental restoration projects.

Doctors On Call Urgent Care and Testing Center reopened on Aug. 28 at the Times Market Plaza in North Kaʻanapali/Honokōwai.

According to the organization, Mālama I Ke Ola Health Center will focus on supporting access to Lahaina and the community in West Maui. In partnership with the Hui No Ke Ola Pono, Mauliola Pharmacy, Maui Medical Group and the Maui District Health Office, Mālama I Ke Ola Health Center will provide outpatient access from the Lahaina Comprehensive Health Center.

Kaiser Permanente Hawaii welcomes three new physicians to its Kihei Clinic, Wailuku Medical Office and Kona Medical Office. Doctors Deidrie Jo Colter, Douglas Stevens, and Benjamin Tautges join the optometry and physiatry departments, and will serve Kaiser Permanente’s 266,000+ members in Hawaii.

Maui Economic Opportunity’s Maui Independent Living Center received a Mountain-Pacific Quality Health Partner Award for 2021 for its work with the Maui Community Partner’s Coalition.

Kaiser Permanente and the Alliance of Health Care Unions reached a tentative agreement today on a four-year contract.

Kaiser Permanente is planning to reopen two clinics, including the Kīhei clinic, and expand hours at two others that were temporarily closed during the pandemic.

Doctors On Call will be offering drive-up rapid COVID-19 testing on Sunday, Sept. 20, 2020 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at The Shops At Wailea. Patients are asked to remain in their cars where a nurse will conduct the rapid COVID-19 test.
