Vegetation fire NW of Ōmaʻopio Road and Kula Hwy in Kula
All areas that were previously under advisories due to a brush fire in Kula, have since returned to normal status. The fire was reported shortly after 5:30 p.m. on Friday, May 22, 2026, northwest of Ōmaʻopio Road and Kula Highway. Emergency crews utilized at least one air asset to respond to the blaze. Further details are pending release.
Update: Brush fire extinguished in area of Kūʻau Beach Place and Hāna Hwy on Maui
The fire in the area of Kūʻau Beach Place and the Hāna Highway was declared extinguished at 10:26 a.m., per command.
Update/Contained: Brush fire near Makaʻala drive and Kahekili Highway in Waiehu
UPDATE: 12:22 p.m., Oct. 27, 2025: The fire in Waiehu has been contained as of 12:14 p.m., per command.
Holomua Fire in Pāʻia: 50% contained, no forward progress overnight, 380 acres burned
The Holomua Fire that started Tuesday afternoon in Pāʻia on Maui burned an estimated 380 acres and was 50% contained this morning, with no forward progress reported overnight.
Update/Contained: Brush fire near Hoʻokele and Pakaula Street in Kahului
As of 3:22 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 11, 2025, the fire near Hoʻokele Street and Pakaula Street in Kahului was declared contained.
Update/Open: Hāna Highway closed near Kaupakalua due to brush fire
Hāna Highway (360) is now OPEN in both directions. It was closed earlier this morning due to a brush fire near Kaupakalua Road.
Update: Maui Lani brush fire extinguished
The Maui Lani brush fire was declared extinguished at 11:43 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2025. Maui fire crews were called to the scene shortly before 9 p.m. in an area near the Maui Lani LDS Church.
Update: Waikapū brush fire extinguished, all roads now OPEN
The fire near Waikō Road and Kūihelani Highway was extinguished as of 8:54 p.m., according to Maui Fire Command. All roads have since reopened in the area.
Update: Brushfire on South Kamehameha Ave. extinguished
A brush fire on South Kamehameha Ave. was extinguished at 5:47 p.m.The fire was first reported at 3:53 p.m. near the Central Maui Sports Complex in Kahului.
Structures saved during Kahikinui fire — suppression efforts continue on Day 3
The large blaze burned close to houses guarded by two structure protection groups – crews of firefighters with various vehicles, deployed to protect structures and “bump and run the fire around the homes,” according to a County of Maui social media update.
Crews battle 4 acre brush fire in Piʻihana area of Wailuku; Flames knocked down
Thursday’s brush fire in Piʻihana burned 4.6 acres before it was 100% contained at 5 p.m. Crews remained on scene overnight to continue mop-up and address any flare-ups. The area received light trade showers overnight and this morning. Firefighters will continue to monitor the area throughout the day today. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Maui firefighters responded to two brush fires overnight—one in Haʻikū, and the other along the Kūihelani Highway in Central Maui.
Firefighters respond to brush fire in Māʻalaea
Maui fire crews extinguished a three acre brush fire in Māʻalaea on Sunday evening at around 8 p.m. The fire was first reported at 4:43 p.m. on Sept. 29 off of the Kūihelani in the area of Old Dump.
Kūihelani brush fire updates: 5 acres burned; 100% contained as of 7 p.m.
A fire along the Kūihelani Highway in Central Maui on Friday afternoon burned five acres of brush before it was brought under control. Fire officials declared the blaze 100% contained at 6:55 p.m. No damages were reported.
Update/Open: Vehicle fire at Pūlehu/Hansen Road
The Maui Police Department issued a road closure at Pūlehu Road and Hansen Road due to a vehicle fire in the area. The closure was issued at 5:40 p.m. on Wednesday, July 31, 2024.
Brush fire off Kahekili Highway
Maui fire crews are responding to a brush fire off of Kahekili Highway in the macadamia nut fields. The fire was reported at around 6:20 a.m. on Saturday, July 13, 2024.
Haleakalā Crater Road fire update 9 p.m. July 12: Residents urged to prepare for potential evacuations; 550 acres burned
Maui County officials issued an update shortly before 9 p.m., notifying the public there are NO evacuations called at this time. However, Maui Police Department officers are going through Kula neighborhoods notifying residents to PREPARE to evacuate if necessary and to sign up for MEMA Alerts.
Haleakalā brush fire burns 2-3 acres off Crater Road
A brush fire that started on Saturday evening off of Crater Road, burned 2-3 acres. Although the fire is fully contained, crews continued mop-up operations today.
Update: Maui fire crews respond to two brush fires at Piʻihana Farms in Wailuku
Maui fire crews responded to two brush fires in the Piʻihana Farms area of Wailuku on Wednesday, May 8, 2024. The first fire was reported at 10:11 a.m. and extinguished at 12:55 p.m., involving about an acre of brush and an abandoned vehicle. A second fire was reported at 1:12 p.m. and was extinguished at 3:25 p.m. It also involved brush and another abandoned vehicle in a different area. No structures were threatened by either fire, according to fire officials. The cause of both fires is under investigation.
Update/Open: Brush fire forces closure of Maui Veterans Hwy near Maui Raceway Park
The Maui Veterans Highway was reopened around 2:40 p.m., according to a spokesperson with the Maui Police Department. The brush fire was reportedly contained around 3:36 p.m. The Maui Fire Department will release specifics following their response.
