Woman in critical condition after rollover accident on West Kuiaha Rd. in Haʻikū
A 44-year-old Kahului woman was pulled unresponsive from a vehicle after it was involved in a rollover accident on West Kuiaha Rd. in Haʻikū on Thursday morning. A 2-year-old girl, who was a passenger in the vehicle, did not sustain injuries as a result of the collision. Both were extricated by good Samaritans.

Maui man pleads guilty to illegally possessing explosive device and powders
Robert Francis Dumaran, 47, of Kahului, entered a plea agreement, pleading guilty to possessing explosive powders as a convicted felon and possessing an unregistered destructive device. Sentencing for Dumaran is set for Feb. 2, 2025, before United States District Judge Jill A. Otake.

Shooting investigation underway: Maui man dead after crash in Waikapū
Maui police have launched a shooting investigation after the death of a motorist in Waikapū early Monday morning. Police have since identified the victim as Shawn Lewis, 42, of Lahaina.
Lewis was reportedly driving along the Honoapiʻilani Highway in Waikapū early Monday morning when he crashed shortly after midnight on Sept. 16, 2024, near Waiolu Place, forcing the closure of the highway for five hours while police conducted an investigation.
The cause of death is pending autopsy.

Missing person: Woman’s belongings found along side of road in Central Maui
The Maui Police Department is seeking the public’s help with any information on the whereabouts of Marina Bonofiglio, 33, of Kahului. Bonofiglio was reported missing on Sunday, Aug. 25, 2024, by a friend after she called for a ride from the area of Pūlehu Road in Kahului, approximately 0.1 mile northwest of the Central Maui Landfill at approximately 4 a.m. Upon their arrival, Bonofiglio’s friends were unable to locate her, but they did find her personal belongings, including her cell phone, along the side of the road. A search was conducted in the immediate area where Bonofiglio’s property was found; however, there were no signs of her, according to police.

The Maui Police Department announced the recent promotions of 12 officers to the rank of Sergeant, which took effect Aug. 1, 2024. The promotions include: Wilfred Ahuna, Kenneth Carroll, Kunal Chopra, Daniel Devine, David Jakubczak, Erik Matsuo, Alika Mullen, Kawika Ornellas, Alvin Ota, Jeffrey Platt, Corey Tom and Nolan Wada.
