#Na Hoku Hanohano Awards

Grammy nominee and multi Nā Hōkū Hanohano Award winner Kumu Hula Kamaka Kukona will celebrate the release of his highly anticipated senior musical project, “KAHENEWAI’OLU,” with a special performance at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center’s Castle Theater on Saturday, Feb. 1, at 7 p.m.

The Ritz-Carlton Maui, Kapalua will welcome award-winning musicians Eric Gilliom and Vince Esquire to its Kapalua Concert Series on Friday, Nov. 1, from 6 to 9 p.m.

In another installment of the Artist 2 Artist concert series, beloved musician Henry Kapono will join forces with Jerry Santos of the legendary band, Olomana. The special guest will be Maui’s own Josh Kahula, the lead singer of Nuff Sedd.

After 27 years at the entrance to downtown Wailuku, Mele Ukulele will close its flagship store following the sale of its location near Wailuku bridge to a mainland owner.

Slack Key ‘Ohana’s latest album “Hawaiian Cowboy,” impressively lassoed the No. 1 spot of the iTunes world music albums chart upon its release last Friday.

Beloved Hawaiʻi performing artist Henry Kapono will perform with guest artists in a continuation of the Artist 2 Artist series beginning Feb. 23, the Maui Arts & Cultural Center announced.

The winners of the 46th Annual Nā Hōkū Hanohano Awards were announced during a ceremony held Saturday at the Hawaiʻi Theatre. Big winners this year were Natalie Ai Kamauu and Wehilei.

Kulāiwi took home awards for Group of the Year, Album of the Year, and Hawaiian Music Album of the Year. Their Native Lands album also surfaced in the Hawaiian Engineering of the Year category, which went to Michael Grande & Shawn Pimental for their work on Ē Liliʻu Ē, and Haʻihaʻi Pua Lehua.

The Tuahine Troupe’s recently recorded first album, Keāiwaokulamanu, earned eight Nā Hōkū Hanohano nominations, including for Album of the Year and Group of the Year. 

The Hawai‘i Academy of Recording Arts and The Council for Native Hawaiian Advancement present the 45th Annual Nā Hōkū Hanohano Awards on July 20 at the Sheraton Waikiki on Oʻahu.

Every first Friday of the month from 8-9 p.m., Hōkū Nights features music and interviews from Hawai‘i’s music legends and emerging recording artists.

Kainani Kahaunaele was the standout at the 44th Annual Nā Hōkū Hanohano Awards, winning seven awards in six categories for her third album Waipunalei. The list of winners is posted here:

The Maui Arts & Cultural Center hosts a Live @ the MACC streaming event tonight, Saturday, Sept. 25, featuring Nathan Aweau.

Mayor Rick Blangiardi held a ceremony to dedicate a plaque at the Tom Moffatt Waikīkī Shell honoring legendary concert promoter and entrepreneur, Tom Moffatt. Moffatt passed away in 2016 after a six-decade career promoting events in the islands.

Island Rock musician Ka’imi Hanano’eau has been nominated to the final ballot for the 44th Annual Nā Hōkū Hanohano Awards in the Alternative Album of the Year category for “Pohaku Motu.”

The Institute for Hawaiian Music at University of Hawaiʻi Maui College released a compilation CD by its first-ever cohort of students on the island of Moloka‘i on Monday, April 26. Entitled “Awaiāulu ‘Ia E Ke Aloha Nō Moloka‘i” (Bound Together By Love For Moloka‘i) featuring nine recordings, seven of which are original compositions by the students.

Live @ the MACC is presenting a free streaming concert on Saturday, April 3 at 7:30 p.m. featuring Maui singer, songwriter and musician, Kaleo Phillips. The virtual concert is live-streamed from the Castle Theater stage and also features lead guitarist, Wailau Ryder and the hula artistry of Phillip’s wife, Pakalana.

Two-time Grammy Award-winning Hawaiian musician Kalani Pe‘a returns to the Kahilu Theatre, streaming live via Kahilu.TV on Saturday, Jan. 9, 2021 at 4 pm.

Maui’s Wailani Artates of Artistry8 won her fourth Nā Hōkū Hanohano Award for the graphics design of Amy Hānaiali‘i’s 15th album, Kalawai‘anui, alongside Kumu Hula and fashion designer Micah Kamohoaliʻi of Waimea.

The Hawai‘i Academy of Recording Arts is holding its 43rd Annual Nā Hōkū Hanohano Awards online Saturday night (Oct. 10) with a pre-show that begins at 6 pm and the ceremony at 7 pm.
