Central Maui Senior Little League reached the end of their World Series journey, earning the No. 2 spot in the US. The Maui boys came within one win of the US title and two wins of the World Series title, but fell to Cherry Hill, New Jersey in a 12-2 loss on Friday afternoon.

Update/Open: Brush fire briefly shuts down landing operations at Kahului Airport

Update: Kahului Airport (OGG) has reopened after the FAA shut down operations for about 30 minutes because of a nearby brushfire. Five inbound Maui flights had to be diverted to the Daniel K. Inouye International Airport.

The newly created Maui Tradewinds Vocational Training Program has opened registration for its workforce facility engineer training program. The program is free to attend, and selected trainees will be paid a stipend of $15 per training hour.

Dora maintains hurricane strength, still on track to pass south of Hawaiʻi

Even while weakening, Dora is expected to remain a hurricane through the entire 5-day forecast period, according to forecasters with the National Hurricane Center. The National Weather Service advises that “while it should continue to be monitored, guidance shows Dora passing south of the islands.”  Forecasters with the NWS are anticipating limited showers with trade winds becoming strong and gusty on Tuesday.

Tennis courts at War Memorial Complex vandalized to accommodate pickleball use

Vandalism has reportedly altered one of the main county tennis courts in Wailuku. According to county officials, the upper tennis court at the War Memorial Complex was painted to accommodate pickleball use and a bracket was installed into a wood panel of the facility fence for shade.
