A resident and two dogs were displaced following a house fire in Makawao early Friday morning.

The state Department of Health has identified six COVID-19 clusters on Maui that are currently under investigation.  Three of the clusters were identified at bars or nightclubs for a total of 22 cases.

A father and his adult son, both from California, are set to return to the mainland following their arrest at Maui’s Kahului Airport for alleged violation of Maui’s Rules and Orders.

There were 106 new COVID-19 cases reported in Hawai‘i on Friday, including 73 on O‘ahu, 15 on Maui, 11 on Hawaiʻi Island, three on Kauaʻi and four in Hawai‘i residents diagnosed outside of the state. The Maui count today included five cases in Kīhei, four in Lahaina, two in Kahului, and one each in Wailuku and Makawao.

Maui County Mayor Michael Victorino announced today that the AlohaSafe Alert application that has undergone pilot testing on Lānaʻi and Hāna has been approved for full rollout in Maui County, making Maui County the first County in the State to utilize this resource to assist in curbing the spread of COVID-19.

The plan was developed following the false missile alert that was sent out across Hawaii in 2018.

“What we’re looking at in the waiting period is that there is a significant swell in a couple of days’ time, and that’s going to be the money day for us, so we’re really excited about that,” said Jessi Miley-Dyer, WSL Vice President of Tours and Competition.

There is no tsunami expected after a 4.1 preliminary magnitude earthquake reported at 7:44 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 4, 2020 on the Western Flank of Mauna Loa on Hawaiʻi Island.

The funding would cover 800 soldiers and airmen, and the state has the ability to request additional funding for up to 1,300 soldiers and airmen.

The Hawai‘i State Department of Health has issued a high bacteria count notification and is retesting water at Kahului Harbor east of Hoaloha Park.

There were 144 new COVID-19 cases reported in Hawai‘i on Thursday, including 118 on O‘ahu, 14 on Maui, seven on Hawaiʻi Island, two on Kauaʻi and three in Hawai‘i residents diagnosed outside of the state. The Maui count today included cases in Kahului, Kīhei and Lahaina.

At least 69 years old, biologists have confirmed that Wisdom has laid an egg and has joined her mate in taking turns to incubate it.

Former Honolulu Police Chief Louis Kealoha and his wife, former Honolulu prosecutor Katherine Kealoha, were sentenced in federal court this week to 84 months and 156 months in prison, respectively, for a range of criminal conduct, including framing their relative with a crime to conceal their own fraud.

There were 78 new COVID-19 cases reported in Hawai‘i on Wednesday, including 63 on O‘ahu, four on Maui, one each on Hawaiʻi Island and Kauaʻi and nine in Hawai‘i residents diagnosed outside of the state. The Maui count today included cases in Lahaina and Kula. Both Kīhei and Lahaina have a medium range of infections with 41 cases reported in Kīhei in the last 14 days, and 23 cases in Lahaina reported over the same period.

Maui nonprofits, Hawaiian Community Assets joins Akakū: Maui Community Media in hosting a series of community meetings from December 2020 through February 2021 to gather feedback from local residents on the development the County’s 5,000-unit Comprehensive Affordable Housing Plan.

A Financial Opportunity Center is now open in Wailuku to provide intervention for economic recovery from the coronavirus pandemic. With its new location in Wailuku, the FOC aims to assist 3,000 Maui residents and families in qualifying for affordable rentals and mortgage financing over the course of three years.

Illegal trails have become a concern with the state Department of Land and Natural Resources identifying 21 such paths crossing the popular Pineapple Express mountain bike trail alone at the Kahakapao Recreation Area on Maui.
