Maui Fire Crews Douse Fire at Gas Station on Papalaua Street in Lahaina
An overnight fire at a gas station on Papalaua Street in Lahaina on Maui forced road closures and detours while crews battled the blaze. Maui police rerouted traffic onto Front Street for the duration. A portion of the Honoapiʻilani Highway was closed beginning at 1 a.m.; and all roads were reopened at 5:23 a.m.

Maui Mayor Michael Victorino sent a letter to the Governor David Ige today asking him to lift the 14-day restriction on interisland travelers starting June 15, 2020.
Nine Boyd Gaming Nevada Properties to Reopen on June 4
Boyd Gaming Corporation announced plans to resume operations at nine of its Nevada properties on Thursday, June 4, pending receipt of final regulatory approvals. Properties included on the reopening list are: The Orleans, Gold Coast, Suncoast, Aliante, Cannery, Sam’s Town, Fremont, California and Jokers Wild.

The peaceful demonstration, which began at 10 a.m., included a line of individuals holding signs and chanting “I can’t breathe,” as passing motorists honked horns. The rally comes on the heels of the May 25th death of George Floyd in Minneapolis and the ongoing protests that have followed.

10 Military Ospreys Conduct Training Flight Over Maui
Ten MV-22 Osprey aircraft were observed flying over parts of Maui on Thursday afternoon. Maui Now has confirmed that the aircraft were conducting a training mission with Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 268, Marine Aircraft Group 24 out of US Marine Corps Base Hawaiʻi.
Another Day with Three New COVID-19 Cases on O‘ahu; State Total is 649
There were three new COVID-19 cases reported today on the island of Oʻahu, pushing Hawaiʻi’s COVID-19 case total to 649. The total count only increased by two cases from yesterday because one case was removed as a result of updated testing information, according to the state Department of Health. To date, 605 people (95.7%) have recovered including 107 in Maui County. There are currently 27 active cases in the state.
Update: California Man Agrees to Return Home After Arrest on Maui for Quarantine Violation
The Maui Police Department is seeking the public’s help in locating 36-year-old Joaquin Pelayo of California. Police say Pelayo has allegedly violated the mandatory 14-day travel quarantine by indicating he would be staying at a Kīhei home, however he has not been located.

Update: (4:27 p.m. 5.29.20) Maui Police issued an update this afternoon saying Kody Genovia was located and is in good health. Previous Post: Kody Genovia, 27, was last known to be residing in the Wailuku area and last had contact with his family in February or March of 2020.

Maui police say new processing of evidence in a two-decade-old Maui murder cold case is “significant.” Anthony Moreno was arrested in December 2019 in Florida for the 2000 murder of Kimberly Belluomini at her residence in Kīhei on Maui.
