Paddle Imua concludes its 13th Annual Race
The 13th Annual Paddle Imua crowned its champions this Sunday, July 14 following a race down the famed Maliko Run off the north shore of Maui. Paddle Imua is a multi-discipline paddling race which, in the spirit of the Hawaiian word “Imua” (meaning ‘to move forward’), aims to raise funds for Imua Family Services’ Camp Imua program – a 48-year Maui tradition which provides a week-long recreational summer camp experience for children with special needs.
Central Maui All-Stars capture Hawaiʻi State Little League Championship, 50/70 Intermediate Division title
The Central Maui Little League Intermediate (age 13) All-Star team captured the Hawaiʻi State Championship over the weekend of June 30-July 1, defeating Hilo by the score of 8-2. Maui will now represent the State of Hawaiʻi as champions, advancing to the Western Regional competition July 14-25 in Nogales, AZ on the “Road to the World Series.”

The 25th anniversary of the Molokaʻi 2 OʻahuPaddleboard World Championships (M2O), presented by the Hawaiʻi Tourism Authority is set to welcome an international field of athletes who will cover more than 32 miles across the Kaiwi Channel, launching from the coastline of Moloka’i and finishing on O’ahu.

The Honua Finals surf contest will run on Tuesday and Wednesday, July 9-10, at Ala Moana Bowls on Oʻahu. The inaugural Honua Finals: The World Cup of Interscholastic Surfing, presented by Nike Swim provides opportunities for young, talented Hawaiʻi surfers to compete with other elite high school surf teams from across the globe right here at home, in the birthplace of surfing.
Maui’s Miles wins Hawaiʻi State Junior Golf Title
Maui’s Reagan James Miles of Kīhei won the HSJGA Boys 15-18 State Championship, held July 1-2, 2024 at Hawaiʻi Prince B/C golf course on Oʻahu. It was the second state title for the 18 year old Miles, who also won the 2018 HSJGA State Championship at age 12.
Volleyball officials ‘desperately’ needed for Maui Interscholastic League
The nonprofit Maui County Volleyball Officials organization, is actively recruiting for the upcoming High School Volleyball seasons during the 2024-2025 school year. No experience is necessary; training and equipment will be provided. While scheduling is flexible, training will be prioritized for those with a minimum of two days availability per week. Games are Tuesday-Friday evenings and Saturday mornings.

High school surfers to compete in inaugural World Cup of Interscholastic Surfing at Ala Moana Bowls in July
The Honua Finals will bring together over 120 surfers representing the top high school surf teams from New Zealand, California, and for the first time ever, all four counties in the State of Hawaiʻi. The holding period is July 9-14, 2024 with the contest running on the best two days of surf.

Kelis Kaleopaʻa (HAW) and Kaniela Stewart (HAW) won titles in the Local Motion Surf Into Summer At Home In The Hawaiian Islands, over a heavily-contested field on Wednesday. Ala Moana Bowls provided three-to-four conditions for Kaleopaʻa and Stewart, alongside their longboard contingent, to showcase style and poise under pressure, according to the World Surf League. In the end, it was South Shore sweep for the two competitors as Waikīkī’s reigning WSL Longboard Champion, Kai Sallas (HAW) and American Samoa’s Sive Jarrard (ASM) earned runner-up finishes. HMSA awards $75,000 in scholarships to 15 high school seniors; $13,500 to outstanding high schools
Maui recipients are Madison Strand of King Kekaulike High School and Jasmyn Yoshikawa of Baldwin High School. Winning schools on Maui are Maui Preparatory Academy for small school, and Kamehameha Schools Maui in the large school division.
