Gov. Ige Issues Statement Amid News of Protestors Storming of the US Capitol
Hawaiʻi Governor David Ige has issued a statement saying, “The news that protestors have stormed the US Capitol is extremely distressing. It is an assault on democracy and everything this country stands for. The vote certification process and peaceful transition of power must be completed as required by the United States Constitution, following a free and fair election. In Hawai‘i, State Sheriffs -Department of Public Safety, are working with the Honolulu Police Department to protect the Hawai‘i State Capitol if necessary.”
Emergency Rock Removal Project on Kahekili Highway, Jan. 9-11
An emergency project to remove loose, unstable rocks above Milepost 8.1 on Maui’s Kahekili Highway is scheduled for Jan. 9 to 11, 2021, and will make the roadway impassable to motorists during the day while work is ongoing, the Department of Public Works announced.

State officials are implementing an immediate closure of Puʻu Olaʻi “Little Beach,” at Mākena State Park on Maui following reports on Sunday of “beach parties with drum circles, nudity, illegal alcohol and other illicit substances, coupled with hundreds of mask-less people in close contact with one another.”
