Maui Aerial Power Line Inspections Begin Today

Maui Electric Company will be using unmanned aircraft, or drones, and a helicopter for routine aerial power line inspections from today through Friday.

The state Department of Health posted a red “closed” placard at the Honokōwai eatery last week following an inspection in which numerous violations were recorded including: an extensive roach infestation, build up of black mold on the chute of the ice machine, unsafe food cooling practices and employee hygiene violations.

Over the past two weeks, staffing shortages at the Maui Community Correctional Center prompted cancellations of weekend visits for inmates. No other correctional facilities in the state experienced any visit cancellations in the past four years.
