Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset recognizes three entities that provided outstanding services after Aug. 8 fires

The Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset presented its 8th annual Vocational Service Awards to an individual, a non-profit organization, and a local business — all of whom assisted in some way with the recovery in Lahaina immediately after the Aug. 8 wildfire.

Sculpture once gifted to Maui’s greatest patron of the arts, donated to UH Mānoa

The sculpture “RISE” was created in 1979 by Kauaʻi-born artist Bumpei Akaji as a gift for the late Masaru “Pundy” Yokouchi, founding chairperson of Hawaiʻi’s State Foundation on Culture and the Arts. Yokouchi was also the inspiration and driving force behind the fundraising, planning, design, and construction of the world-class Maui Arts & Cultural Center in Kahului.  Dods and Shidler purchased the sculpture from Yokouchi’s estate on Maui. Dods named it “RISE” with permission from Yokouchi’s family.

Maui Fire Department announces Fourth of July fireworks information

The County of Maui’s Department of Fire and Public Safety announced the sale of Fourth of July fireworks beginning on Saturday, June 29, 2024, and ending on Thursday, July 4, 2024, at 8 p.m. An aerial fireworks display is scheduled for 8 p.m. on the Fourth of July, offshore of the Grand Wailea.

Green Party of Hawai’i State Convention set for June 29 on Maui

Hawaiʻi health department shares FDA alert for IQF oysters

The Hawai‘i Department of Health (DOH) Food Safety Branch is notifying the public of the recent Food and Drug Administration (FDA) advisory regarding certain IQF oysters from the Republic of Korea. Update: Police looking for vehicle involved in fatal hit-and-run in Kahului

Police say the man who died was known to frequent the area, and was lying in the roadway when an unknown vehicle drove over him. The vehicle was headed southwest on Lono Ave. towards Kaʻahumanu Ave. and the driver did not stop or render aid and fled the scene in an unknown direction, according to Maui police.
