AARP Analysis Found 4 Hawaiʻi Nursing Home Deaths for 4-Week Period, Below National Average
AARP’s latest COVID-19 analysis of nursing homes in Hawaiʻi, covering the four weeks ending February 14, shows there were four deaths, which again is below the national per capita average. There were no new COVID-19 infections reported among residents.
Micro Grants Awarded to 105 Small Farms in Maui County
Maui County’s $2.5 million Agricultural Micro Grants Program, administered by Maui Economic Opportunity, purchased tractors, chippers and other supplies; put up fencing and sheds; and established an online presence for 105 small farms in the county.

In February 2021, Hawaiʻi hotels statewide reported occupancy rate at 30.5 percent, which is up 8.6 percent from January 2021 but still well below the pre-pandemic occupancy rates of February 2020, according to the Hawaiʻi Hotel Performance Report.

March 21, 2021 COVID-19 Update: 81 Cases (42 O‘ahu, 24 Maui, 5 Hawai‘i Island, 1 Moloka‘i, 9 Out-of-State); 1 Death
The state Department of Health reports that there were 81 additional COVID-19 cases reported in Hawai‘i on Sunday, including 42 on O‘ahu, 24 on Maui, five on Hawai‘i Island, one on Moloka‘i, and nine in Hawai‘i residents diagnosed out of state. There were a total of 850 cases logged over the past two weeks, 287 of them in Maui County.

March 20, 2021 COVID-19 Update: 87 Cases (55 O‘ahu, 22 Maui, 9 Hawai‘i Island, 1 Out-of-State); 1 Death
The state Department of Health reports that there were 87 additional COVID-19 cases reported in Hawai‘i on Saturday, including 55 on O‘ahu, 22 on Maui, nine on Hawai‘i Island, and one in a Hawai‘i resident diagnosed out of state. There were a total of 826 cases logged over the past two weeks, 273 of them in Maui County.
Department of Health Expands Mental Health Assistance in Response to Ongoing Pandemic
The Department of Health launched a new program, Kū Makani – The Hawai‘i Resiliency Project in January dedicated to offering crisis counseling to callers facing emotional fallout due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The program also offers virtual events for individuals and groups of all ages as well as island-specific resources and referrals.

Special Olympics Hawaiʻi launched its first-ever Virtual High Five Campaign that aims to help and support local athletes with intellectual disabilities who have all been impacted by the unprecedented shutdown of in-person sports.
