More than a century after her death, the story of a saint who served those with Hansen’s disease and died on Moloka’i is being told anew—through science. Chaminade University’s Forensic Sciences Unit is helping evaluate her remains, uniting Marianist mission and modern forensic expertise to bring history to life in service to the community.

After years of hard work and dedication, two Bank of Hawai‘i employees proudly received their diplomas from Chaminade University Saturday night, their tuition fully covered by the bank’s College Assistance Program.

Chaminade University of Honolulu secured high grades for academic excellence, value and student life by two organizations that provide annual rankings of universities.

Sacred Hearts School in Lahaina has announced the appointment of Dr. Patty Wurst as the new vice principal and curriculum director. Wurst has been a member of the Sacred Hearts ‘ohana since 2000.

Ralph Mesick, a Hawaiʻi banker with nearly 40 years of financial services experience, has joined Central Pacific Bank (CPB) as its senior executive vice president and chief risk officer, according to an announcement today by Arnold Martines, CPB chairman, president and chief executive officer.

The National Science Foundation has awarded a five-year, $6.5 million grant to the University of Hawaiʻi for a project aimed at enhancing cyberinfrastructure adoption, capacity and training in the Pacific.

Since Bank of Hawai‘i’s College Assistance Program began in 2016, 25 employees have now earned degrees from Chaminade University or an associate degree from the University of Hawai‘i Community Colleges with more than $2.1 million in educational costs covered.  This year, all four employees—Rita Aponte, Ryan Chang, Cindy Corpuz and KerryLynn Vea—received their bachelor’s degrees in business administration.

Six Maui County high school seniors have been awarded $1,000 each by the Josh and Souk Jerman Foundation Scholarship program. 

AlohaCare awarded academic scholarships to seven students in the state, three of whom are students from Maui and Lānaʻi. The application portal has opened for the 2024-2025 school year.

Julia Golding, a teacher and performing arts director at St. Anthony School in Wailuku, was honored as the Hawaiʻi Catholic Schools Teacher of the Year.

Chaminade University has launched a new fully online School Counseling graduate program for Neighbor Island students. The first classes are scheduled to begin in April 2021. 

Hawaiian is offering students registered for fall classes at Chaminade University, Hawai‘i Pacific University and the University of Hawai‘i a five percent fare discount on its transpacific flights, two complimentary checked bags and a flexible booking policy on all flights.

The Maui Jim Maui Invitational recently announced its 2021 field, a collection of programs that boasts a combined 137 NCAA Tournament appearances, 59 Sweet Sixteen berths, and two AP Coach of the Year winners.  

Ticket packages for this yearʻs Maui Jim Maui Invitational will go on sale at 4 p.m. eastern time on Aug. 15.

The Maui Jim Maui Invitational and Chaminade University will host two coaches clinics–one on Maui on Oct. 20 and the other in Honolulu on Oct. 23.
