Workers removed approximately 43 sacks of soil estimated at 84,000 pounds, replacing it with soil gathered at a nearby site. The soil removed is being safely stored at the summit of Haleakalā until a remediation plan is approved in Phase 3.

A High Wind Watch will go into effect on Tuesday morning, and remain in place through Friday afternoon for the summits of the Big Island and for Haleakalā on Maui.

This program ensures that 90% of the proceeds generated by the license plate purchases will be dedicated back to Haleakalā National Park to provide funding for critical projects in conservation and education.

The Palikū wilderness cabin reservations will be available seven days per week on Recreation.gov beginning Nov. 8, 2021 between 7 and 7:30 a.m. Hawaiʻi Standard Time.  Due to ongoing drought and water shortages, the remote Palikū wilderness cabin reservations were temporarily limited to Friday-Sunday only.  

Visitors planning to backpack in Haleakalā National Park are now able to reserve Haleakalā Crater wilderness campsites in advance online. The new reservation system through Recreation.gov and wilderness camping in Haleakalā Crater officially opened on Earth Day, April 22 at 7 a.m. HST.

Kamehamenui is located between Kula Forest Reserve and Haleakalā National Park, and its protection is critical to achieve the overarching goal to restore the “mauna lei”, the band of forest that once encompassed Haleakalā. Restoring this contiguous lei of habitat around the mountain will ensure biological connectivity and restore ecological services.

Haleakalā National Park is soliciting Commercial Use Authorization applications for guided astronomy tours and hiking tours.

Haleakalā National Park is now accepting Commercial Use Authorization (CUA) applications for guided astronomy tours and hiking tours. Up to four astronomy tour permits and up to six guided hiking tour permits will be issued.

Haleakalā National Park is increasing access to crater trails for day-use only. Beginning Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2020, Haleakalā National Park will reopen the following areas for day-use only:  Haleakalā Crater hiking trails and wilderness areas, Keoneheʻeheʻe (Sliding Sands) Trail and Halemau‘u Trail. 

Haleakalā National Park  is increasing access to park trails, by opening the first 2.5 mile section of the Keoneheʻeheʻe “Sliding Sands” Trail for use from Friday to Sunday.

Haleakalā National Park daily entrance fees will be raised to meet national standards with the per-person fee to change from $8 to $10 on June 1, 2016.

Haleakalā National Park is seeking cultural practitioners from local communities for its Hana Noʻeau series to host cultural demonstrations at the park’s Kīpahulu and Summit Districts. The next commercial-free day at Haleakalā National Park will take place on Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2015 in observance of Ka’elo, Huna Moon.

Haleakalā National Park officials held a public meeting on Thursday, Aug. 20, to outline a pine control project scheduled for September through October of this year. The project will target over 3,000 invasive pine trees in Haleakalā Crater.

All national parks will waive entrance fees on Saturday and Sunday, April 18 and 19, 2015 to kick off National Park Week.

The public is invited to attend a community meeting hosted by Haleakalā National Park this Wednesday, June 18, 2014, from 5 to 6:30 p.m., at the Maui Mall.

The fee for admission to Haleakalā National Park will be waived this Saturday and Sunday, April 19 and 20, as the facility kicks off National Park Week.

Improvements to all parking lots in the Summit District of Haleakalā National Park are scheduled to begin around April 29, officials said.
