Hawaiʻi Medical Service Association has announced that Jenny Smith will assume the roles of president and chief operating officer of Hawaiʻi’s most experienced health plan, effective Nov. 1. She will be the first female president in HMSA’s 87-year history.

The Hawaiʻi Medical Service Association has announced the 20th anniversary of the Kaimana Awards & Scholarship Program, which has awarded 341 student scholarships and 171 school awards to date. With the upcoming Kaimana class of 2025, HMSA will have invested a total of $1.62 million in scholarships and awards to students and schools.

Maui recipients are Madison Strand of King Kekaulike High School and Jasmyn Yoshikawa of Baldwin High School. Winning schools on Maui are Maui Preparatory Academy for small school, and Kamehameha Schools Maui in the large school division.

Maui activities for HMSA members include opportunities for free admission to Maui Ocean Center and Kula Country Farms.

The Hawaii Medical Service Association is partnering with Mālama I Ke Ola Health Center, Queen’s University Medical Group and Hawaii Independent Physicians Association to get expectant moms care on Maui, even while there’s an obstetrician shortage.
