Oʻahu’s Eweleiula Wong and Luke Tema each claimed wins at the World Surf League The Hawaiian Islands Sunset Pro, a men’s and women’s Qualifying Series 1000, in iconic Sunset Beach conditions on Monday.

Maui, Hawaii duo Levi Young (HAW) and Kai Lenny (HAW) will take on Justin Roberson (HAW) and Todd Coffey (HAW) to kickstart men’s Round of 96, Heat 1.

This came ahead of the Aloha Classic event at Hoʻokipa this week, happening Oct. 21- Nov. 1, 2024. Established in 1984, the Aloha Classic is the longest running windsurfing wave event, and is the final stop on the International Windsurfing Tour. 

The first phase of the “Maui Nui Hall of Fame” was unveiled Sunday evening at Kahului Airport, featuring 40 inaugural inductees from Maui County who have made significant contributions in music, film, and sports in Hawai‘i and beyond. The World Surf League 2023/2024 Big Wave season is officially open. This Big Wave season will feature events at two iconic locations: the TUDOR Jaws Big Wave Challenge at Peʻahi on Maui in the Hawaiian Islands; and the TUDOR Nazaré Big Wave Challenge in Nazaré, Portugal.  The holding period to run the competition at Nazaré opens today, and Peʻahi starts on Nov. 10. Both events’ holding periods close on March 31, 2024.
