The County of Maui Department of Housing announced the release of its Fiscal Year 2026 Affordable Housing Fund Annual Plan, which outlines key investments and initiatives designed to address the growing demand for affordable housing across Maui County.

For the Mathers, homeownership seemed unattainable. The constant threat of displacement from their beloved ‘āina loomed over them. Jen Mather, alongside her husband Richard and their children Kūmoanaākea, 15, and Keolaonākai’elua, 14, expressed profound gratitude: “Nā Hale O Maui has made it possible not only for myself and my keiki to continue living here in Maui Komohana but also for the seven generations to come after us. We commit, along with Nā Hale, to keep this house affordable in perpetuity.”

Starting Oct. 2, 2023 at 9 a.m. and running through Oct. 8, rental applications will be available for pickup in person at 400 Hāna Highway, Suite 3 in Kahului. The application deadline for the initial lottery is Oct. 29, 2023. A lottery for 195 residential workforce housing units will be held virtually on Nov. 20, 2023.

An Environmental Impact Statement Preparation Notice has been filed for the proposed development of a new Central Maui Wastewater Reclamation Facility and onsite Soil Aquifer Treatment basin in Waikapū.

Improvements for the approximately 13-acre Kehalani Mauka Park in Wailuku could include walking paths, trees, benches, pavilions, and other features to enhance the park for the public to use. An open house takes place July 1 from 8-11 a.m.

All homes in the Kehalani Koa Subdivision and the Villas at Kehalani will have their water shut-off from 9 p.m. on Thursday, May 25 to 5 a.m. on Friday, May 26, 2023.

Kaulana Mahina expects to begin delivering homes in the late summer of 2023, with a lottery process opening in the months prior.
