This full speed training exercise on March 20, involved an evolving scenario with a missing swimmer, and overdue (and later reported sunk) boat traveling between Lānaʻi and South Maui. 

The County of Maui announced that numerous County, State and federal agencies will be participating in a joint search and rescue exercise this week. The most visible activities will take place Wednesday, March 20 from 8:30 a.m. to noon at Kīhei Boat Ramp and in the offshore waters between South Maui and the island of Lānaʻi.

The exercise will take place March 20, on the water and in the air off Kīhei Boat Ramp with Coast Guard and local agencies working together to test and evaluate interagency communications, response plans and responders’ actions during a simulated exercise of a missing mariner.

A water service outage has been reported at Kamaʻole Beach Park III and the Kīhei Boat Ramp. The Maui Department of Water Supply reports the outage will continue until 3:30 p.m. on June 7, due to a resurfacing project.

Drainage improvements to the Kīhei Boat Ramp wash down area on Maui will begin Feb. 6, 2023. The estimated completion date for the $324,820 project is March 3, 2023.

The water service outage will affect 100 homes and 60 businesses and 100 fire hydrants. Water service will be out tentatively for six hours from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 30, 2022, in order to make necessary repairs. The affected area will begin at South Kīhei Road between the Kīhei boat ramp and Kamaʻole Beach Park 1.

Four men were rescued from a distressed fishing vessel that ran aground on the rocks fronting the Kīhei Boat Ramp in South Maui on Monday morning.

A project to dredge the entrance of the Kīhei Boat Ramp is scheduled to begin on July 1 and has an estimated completion date of November 4.

To help educate Maui’s ocean users about rules and conduct toward humpback whales, monk seals, sea turtles, and other marine protected species, state conservation officers will conduct talk story sessions at Kīhei and Māla boat ramps this weekend.

DOCARE officers will be on hand this weekend, Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 27 and 28 from 8 a.m. to noon at both the Kīhei and Māla boat ramps.

The Kahoʻolawe Island Reserve Commission invites the public to Mahina‘ai Night on Saturday, Aug. 29, from 6 to 8 p.m. at its Kīhei boat house property, an eight-acre parcel designated to the KIRC in 2002 as the future site of a Kahoʻolawe learning center.
