Curbside trash pickup routes in Kula and Haʻikū/Paʻuwela areas resumes Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2025, after missed routes Friday, according to the County of Maui Department of Environmental Management Solid Waste Division.

Makawao residents should prepare for a possible water outage from 9 p.m. Nov. 11 through 4 a.m. Nov. 12.

Windy and rainy conditions have resulted in a number of weather related outages and closures across the island. Below is a running list of incidents.

Preparatory work for the nearly $4.8 million project has been ongoing for three months, but road repairs that will require total road closures on weekends will begin Saturday, Nov. 23, and continue for approximately five months.

A portion of Kaluanui Road in Makawao will be fully closed from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday Aug. 26 to Thursday, Aug. 29 and again from Wednesday, Sept. 4 to Friday, Sept. 13 for an in-house road preservation project.

Upcountry residents can expect road closures for roadway reconstruction projects in Haʻikū and Makawao beginning Monday, Feb. 4

County officials say Makawao Avenue from the Kokomo Road intersection to Piʻiholo Road will be closed several days due to road reconstruction work.

Motorists are advised of a motor vehicle accident on Kokomo Road that involved damage to an electric pole.

Maui firefighters doused a container fire sparked by an unattended smoke meat cooker in Haʻikū on Wednesday afternoon.

The Department of Water Supply will be doing waterline maintenance work at the Poʻokela Tank site in the Olinda area on from 11 p.m. on Tuesday, June 9 to 5 a.m., Wednesday, June 10.

A number of residents called to complain saying the rains left holes as deep as 8 inches in some locations. Crews returned to the Kaupakalua Road area today to conduct repairs after overnight rains in Haʻikū on Wednesday washed away recent pothole repairs.

Both the Haʻikū Road and Kokomo Road projects are expected to last for several months at least. During this time motorists are advised to expect delays and to use caution and to follow all traffic control signs.

Maui Master Builders will be conducting emergency repair work on Wākea Avenue in Kahului, starting tomorrow, Friday, March 6, at 9 p.m. The company will also begin work on its Kokomo Road Pavement Reconstruction project, which is slated to begin next Saturday, March 14.

A 52-year-old Haʻikū woman suffered life-threatening injuries when she was struck by a vehicle while walking on Kokomo Road in Haʻikū last night, police said.

Trash pickup for some areas in Kula, Haiku and Paia did not receive refuse collection service today due to a staff shortage.
