This Saturday, Sept. 6, the community will gather for Lights for Lahaina, an evening dedicated to reflection, healing, and the enduring spirit of Lahaina. From 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., the historic grounds of Maria Lanakila Catholic Church will be transformed into a space where Maui’s ʻohana can come together to honor the past and embrace hope for the future.

An inaugural Lights for Lahaina & Light March is scheduled to take place on the evening of Saturday, Sept. 6, 2025. The free event provides a chance for the community to come together, inviting all to reflect on Lahaina’s past, celebrate its resilience, and move forward with hope into the future.

Construction is set to begin in October 2025 as part of ongoing recovery efforts.

Maria Lanakila Catholic Church reopened last week in downtown Lahaina, resplendent in white Christmas lights and even capped by a three-quarter moon high over its spire in the West Maui night sky.

Spirits were lifted for hundreds of West Maui families this week, as Sacred Hearts School celebrated the blessing of their new temporary campus on Friday.

A “Spiritual and Wellness Health Fair” for Lahaina and Kula wildfire survivors will be held 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 17 at the Lahaina Civic Center.

Sacred Hearts School is accepting applications for enrollment and financial aid for the 2024-2025 school year at its new campus located at 2530 Kekaʻa Drive in Kāʻanapali, Maui. The school will provide classroom education for its Early Learning Center through 8th grade, as well as a High School Virtual program with in-person facilitation. To help families learn more about the school, an Enrollment Open House will be held on Saturday, June 15, 2024, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. During this event, interested families can visit the campus, talk to school administrators, and learn about enrollment and tuition assistance.

Maui Catholics will hold a Eucharistic procession on Sunday, June 2, from St. Anthony of Padua Church in Wailuku to Christ the King Church in Kahului. The event celebrates the sacrament of Eucharist, originating from the Greek word “eucharistia,” or thanksgiving.

Update: The Hawaiʻi Catholic Community Foundation and Maria Lanakila Church have announced the postponement of their ‘Spiritual and Wellness Health Fair,’ originally scheduled for Saturday, May 18, 2024, at the Royal Lahaina Resort’s Aliʻi Ballroom.

Sacred Hearts School announced Principal Tonata Lolesio is the recipient of the coveted 2024 National Catholic Educational Association (NCEA) Lead, Learn and Proclaim Award.

A groundbreaking ceremony was held in Kāʻanapali for a secondary temporary school site for Sacred Hearts. Students have been attending classes at the Sacred Hearts Mission Church in Kapalua since their Lahaina campus next to Maria Lanakila Church was destroyed in the Aug. 8 wildfires.

In the spirit of bringing some Christmas joy to students affected by the wildfires in Lahaina, retired nurse Linda Higgins of Los Gatos, Calif., led a project to deliver hundreds of handmade Christmas stockings, stuffed with candy and small presents.

In a gesture of community support, True Value has announced a significant donation to the Sacred Hearts School in Lahaina, Maui, that was affected by recent wildfires. The contribution consists of products valued at a total of $200,000, spanning essential categories aimed at helping the school rebuild and recuperate.
