Continuing through the Memorial Day holiday, the Maui Police Department’s Traffic Division will conduct sobriety checkpoints and saturation patrols. The public can expect an increased police presence, including using unmarked vehicles.

Starting this Friday, Feb. 11, and continuing through the weekend, the Maui Police Department Traffic Division, will be conducting sobriety check points and saturation patrols at various locations to address impaired driving over the Super Bowl weekend.

One of those arrests was made on Wednesday, May 5, 2021, during the Maui Police Department’s Cinco De Mayo impaired driving enforcement campaign. Under the authority of the Maui County Tow Ordinance MPD Traffic officers towed the vehicle following the impaired driving arrest.

A 57-year-old Waiehu woman was arrested for the habitual operation of a vehicle while under the influence of an intoxicant, possession of an open liquor container while operating a vehicle, reckless driving and driving without a valid driver’s license.

The Maui Police Department will begin towing the vehicles of drivers arrested for driving under the influence beginning this weekend, according to Maui Police.

As of 9 p.m. on New Year’s Eve, five people are already in custody for impaired driving on Maui, according to Maui police.

Motorist can also expect to see patrols, which will include the use of unmarked patrol vehicles.

The Maui Police Department is participating in the national Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over enforcement campaign, which began on Dec. 13, 2017, and continues into the New Year. 

Maui police issued 1,600 traffic citations, including 55 DUI arrests during the 20-day Drive Sober or Get Pulled over campaign that ran from Aug. 16 to Sept. 4.

The enforcement campaign runs from now until Jan. 2, 2016. Maui police will be increasing the number of patrols, and setting up intoxication control checkpoints.
