Aunty “NTY” Carol Lee Kamekona, a retired 22-year US Navy and Navy Reserve veteran and longtime community organizer, announced Thursday her intent to run for Maui County Council in 2026. 

With strong support from a majority of members of the state House of Representatives, Rep. Nadine K. Nakamura assumed the role of speaker of the House effective Nov. 6, 2024, making history as the first woman to hold this position in the state of Hawaiʻi.

Since early February, five new candidates have checked out nomination papers from the Hawaiʻi Office of Elections for Maui County Council seats.

Kids Voting Hawaiʻi aspires to engage all Hawaiʻi youth in voting at an early age, hoping that as adults they will be engaged citizens. Nearly 1 million students from Hawaiʻi and across the country have cast votes in the Kids Voting Presidential Election.

The West Maui Taxpayers Association will host a virtual Candidates Night webinar on Oct. 15, 2020 at 5:30 pm with candidates for the following: State Representative District 10, Maui County Councilmember – all districts and Office of Hawaiian Affairs.

Registered voters in Maui County may receive their ballot packets as early as July 15. 

The Friends of Gil Keith-Agaran have canceled their campaign fundraiser that was originally scheduled for March 24 at the Maui Waena Intermediate School. On Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2018, a candidate forum featuring Rick Nava and Tamara Paltin will be presented by the Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset. Both candidates are running for the West Maui County Council Seat.

GO Maui, Inc., in collaboration with the Maui Chamber of Commerce and the Construction Industry of Maui will host a candidate forum for Maui mayor and county council races on Sept. 12, 2018.

The Ha’iku Community Association and Pa’ia Town Association are hosting a candidate’s night forum.

Former councilmember and Housing Director, Alice Lee announced her intent to seek the Wailuku seat on the Maui County Council.

The Maui County Council has announced the passage of a resolution in a 6-1 vote, authorizing the appointment of Danny Mateo as County Clerk.

The 2012 election season in Hawaii officially gets underway on Wednesday, February 1, with the commencement of the candidate filing period. Until the state legislative reapportionment plan is complete, individuals may begin filings for only: county, Office of Hawaii Affairs and federal seats.
