The Visitor Industry Charity Walk is the largest statewide fundraiser hosted by a nonprofit organization. Since its inception, more than $45 million has been raised to support hundreds of local charities and since 1980, MHLA started hosting the Charity Walk for Maui County and has since raised over $21 million for Maui.

The Fairmont Kea Lani took home the top sustainability honor from the Hawaiʻi Lodging & Tourism Association for its native reforestation work in fire-impacted Lahaina and Kula and restoration at the Waiheʻe Coastal Dunes.

The Maui Hotel & Lodging Association announced Michael Pye, Regional Vice President of Fairmont, Hawaiʻi and General Manager of the Fairmont Kea Lani, as the Maui County Chair of the 47th Annual Visitor Industry Charity Walk. Pye will oversee the Maui County Charity Walk scheduled for Saturday, May 9, 2026 at the War Memorial Complex in Wailuku.

Fairmont Kea Lani is partnering with Treecovery Hawai‘i with a mission to plant and recover trees in the wildfire-impacted communities of Lahaina and Kula. As an official Treecovery grow hub, the resort is offering temporary sanctuary for hundreds of potted trees, including an air layer from the historic Lahaina Banyan Tree, which was damaged during the August 2023 wildfires.

Fairmont Kea Lani announced the grand opening of Hale Kukuna, a living space dedicated to sharing Hawaiian culture with all. Unveiled through a Moku Ka Piko ceremony led by the resort’s manager of Hawaiian culture, Kamahiwa Kawaʻa, and Kumu Luana Kawaʻa, Hale Kukuna opened on Thursday, Dec. 21, 2023.

Along with celebrating the appointed, MHLA also recognized the wildfire relief efforts of its members during the Annual Meeting. Maui’s visitor industry is experiencing a daily economic loss of nearly $13 million a day since the August wildfires.

The Maui Hotel & Lodging Association announced the selection of Michael Pye as chair of the 2023 Maui Visitor Industry Charity Walk. Pye is the Regional Vice President at Fairmont Hawai’i and General Manager of Fairmont Kea Lani Maui. He will oversee Maui County Charity Walks that include Maui, Molokaʻi and Lānaʻi communities, scheduled for Saturday, May 6, 2023 in Maui.

The Fairmont Kea Lani in Wailea has hired Michael Lofaro, who was named “Chef of the Year” at the 2016 ‘Aipono Awards, as its new executive chef.

Fairmont Kea Lani will reopen on Sunday, Nov. 1 as part of the Hawaiʻi’s Safe Travels Program and will implement new operational standards to prevent the spread of viruses and pathogens, including COVID-19.
