The Upcountry Winter Fest presented by the Kekaulike High School Foundation is returning this year, bringing a sparkling array of winter activities, live entertainment, and seasonal delights to Upcountry, Maui.

Night work is scheduled to take place from 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2025 to 5 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 22, in Upcountry, Maui.

The Hex Press presents the return of Maui Comic Con Dec. 7 and 8, Saturday and Sunday at University of Hawaiʻi Maui College, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. both days. The convention is a family-friendly event and is always free to the public.

Taking place on Saturday, Nov. 30, 2024 from 3 to 8 p.m., this year’s festival will transform the King Kekaulike High School campus into a winter wonderland, offering a festive atmosphere, family-friendly activities, and opportunities to make memories with friends and loved ones.

For a sixth year, Pukalani Superette has completed a school supply donation to Pukalani Elementary School’s entire fourth grade class.

Upcountry wildfire survivors discussed the loss of their homes and the unwavering support of community volunteers who came to their aid in the days following disastrous wildfires on Maui. “It only takes a spark to start a fire. Sometimes you just need that one little spark to get a response going, and the community has been the fuel for that,” said volunteer, Kyle Ellison.

Maui Matsuri returns to the University of Hawaiʻi Maui College on Saturday, May 27 from 3 to 9 p.m., and will kick-off this Saturday, May 20 with Children’s Day at the Queen Ka‘ahumanu Center from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Maui Invasive Species Committee and Pukalani Superette partnered in a unique community outreach event in honor of Earth Day. Students in grade K-8 at the Montessori School of Maui were presented with the challenge of customizing paper grocery bags with messages expressing their appreciation and concern for Maui’s environment.

After 57 years, Barbara Silva, known affectionately by customers as “Aunty Barbara” is retiring from Pukalani Superette later this month. Silva started working at the mom and pop market in 1965, and has been a welcome face to so many customers and employees over the years.

Kulahaven Farms LLC, Hawaiʻi’s first, and only, rainbow trout aquaponics farm will be closing operations by the end of this year, the business announced.

Pukalani Superette will join the Alzheimer’s Association Hawaiʻi Chapter as a Platinum Sponsor for the Walk to End Alzheimer’s ® – Maui on Thursday, Oct. 22, 2022.

Aunty Patty Locey will be retiring from her job as a cashier at Pukalani Superette at the end of the month.

Bell ringers are back and ringing a welcome return of a seasonal ritual, the call for help and the offer of hope to those less fortunate.

Megan Nakashima is the president of Pukalani Superette and she is also among a group of generous and determined participants of what is now called Upcountry Strong, a partnership of individuals, businesses and not-for-profits that answered the need for food donations Upcountry during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Chris Borling has been an employee of Pukalani Superette since 1988, joining the store as an employee while still at Maui High School. Now, 33 years later, he’s a mainstay at the market and an exemplar of what it means to be a good person.

An uptick in COVID-19 cases and the number of quarantined households created an urgent need for personal protection items and household items for East Maui residents who face limited availability of goods in the remote East Maui community.  

The awardees were selected for going above and beyond their own capacity to give back to the community, and for being an inspiration during these trying times of the pandemic.

The spirit of giving came to life at Maui’s Pukalani Superette when a “Secret Santa” stopped by the local grocery store on Christmas Eve and made an anonymous $1,000 donation to pay for customers as they check out.

As Pukalani Superette celebrates its 65th anniversary this month, the business is passing the torch to a new generation of leadership.  

A food distribution event organized by the County of Maui in partnership with Pukalani Superette and Sysco Hawaiʻi provided 300 bags of produce to families in need in the Upcountry community today.   The event, which offered drive-through produce pick-up in the Pukalani Pool parking lot, distributed all donations in just over one hour.
