Additional site for rock scaling work along Hāna Highway

The Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation is notifying the public of upcoming intermittent road closures at mile marker 19.5 on Hāna Highway (Route 360), for rock scaling work.

Hāna Highway $7.7M emergency rockfall mitigation work completed

The Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation announced the completion of its $7.7 million emergency rockfall mitigation work at mile markers 9.7 to 9.9 on Hāna Highway (Route 360) near Waikamoi Stream.

Tuesday night closures on Honoapiʻilani Highway for rock scaling and removal

Crews will be removing a boulder caught in the protective netting and also performing rock scaling and other rock removal work from 9 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 20 to 4:30 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 21. The work will be between mileposts 10.45 to 10.55 on the Lahaina side of the Olowalu Tunnel, also known as the “Pali Tunnel.” The road will be intermittently closed in both directions for up to 10 minutes.

Traffic emergency zone hearing for Hāna Highway near Waikamoi Stream for rockfall mitigation

The Hawai‘i Department of Transportation is providing notice of its intent to declare a traffic emergency zone on Hāna Highway (Route 360) between mile post 9.7 and 9.9 in the vicinity of Waikamoi Stream for emergency rockfall mitigation work.

Roadway at Alelele Point in East Maui reopens after emergency rock removal work

The County of Maui’s roadway along rural Alelele Point in East Maui was reopened Tuesday, after the completion of infrastructure reinstallation that followed emergency slope scaling and rock debris removal.

Limited access begins at Alelele; slope stabilization slated for completion July 19

Road restoration, catchment fencing and reinstalling Hawaiian Telcom infrastructure will continue on the $1.5 million emergency slope stabilization project. Anticipated completion is July 19, 2023.

The contractor selected to complete emergency slope stabilization and repair work at remote Alelele Point area near Kīpahulu in East Maui began mobilizing this week by bringing in materials and equipment.

Barriers, electric signs warn motorists of East Maui road closure following rockfall

County of Maui crews set up concrete barriers today to prevent traffic along a nearly 1-mile Hāna Highway road closure in Kīpahulu where unstable cliffs pose a safety hazard. The closure prevents motorists from traveling completely around the rural area that connects East Maui and South Maui.

Honoapiʻilani Highway intermittent closures for boulder removal on Sunday, Oct. 16

Motorists are advised of a single lane closure, and intermittent closures of both lanes of Honoapiʻilani Highway near Mile 9, in the vicinity of Papawai Point, on Sunday, Oct. 16, from 6 a.m. to 11 a.m.

$500,000 Released for Hāna Highway Rockfall Mitigation

The funding is for Phase 2 of a project located between Mile 19.18 and 19.52 of the Hāna Highway, and will go towards the removal of overhanging, protruding, and unstable rocks from the slopes above the roadway.
