The Wailea Community Association (WCA) started supporting the University of Hawaiʻi Maui College Nursing Program during the pandemic. Since then, it has donated almost $300,000, with almost $100,000 of that just this year.

The University of Hawaiʻi Maui College is seeking Maui pre-nursing students for the Spring 2024 Kealahoʻimai TEAS (Test of Essential Academic Skills) Prep Course. 

Governor Josh Green, M.D. has signed legislation to expand access to health care on Maui and to uplift career advancement opportunities for health care workers in the state.

The University of Hawaiʻi Maui College is offering free training for individuals residing on Lānaʻi, Molokaʻi, and Maui (including Hāna in East Maui) to become Certified Nurse Aides during the spring 2023 semester. Classes run from Jan. 9 to May 12, and involve both online and in-person instruction.

For a third consecutive year, the Wailea Community Association is providing monetary support to the University of Hawaiʻi Maui Campus nursing program, in hopes of increasing healthcare resources in the Maui community.

Sister Marianne Cope, who worked with Father Damien on Molokaʻi and was canonized several years ago, was Maui’s first nurse at Maui’s first hospital.

Foundations, community associations, and individual members of the community donated more than $400,000 in large, year-end gifts to the University of Hawaiʻi Maui College.

The University of Hawaiʻi Maui College’s Office of Extended Learning & Workforce Development is seeking applicants for a Nurse Aide Certificate program being offered with full tuition sponsorship.

The donation will enable continued education, clinical learning, and license renewals for active and clinical nurses in the Maui Health System and students in the University of Hawai‘i at Maui College nursing program.

The University of Hawaiʻi Maui College Nursing program will once again co-sponsor two upcoming COVID-19 vaccination clinics on Tuesday, Dec. 7 from 5 to 8 p.m. and Saturday, Dec. 11 from 8 to 11 a.m., both at the Binhi at Ani Filipino Community Center, located at 780 Oneheʻe Ave. in Kahului.

An estimated $35,000 was raised for the Maui Nurses Scholarship Foundation during a golf fundraiser on Friday, Oct. 8, at Maui Lani.

On Saturday, May 1, from 8 a.m. to noon, there will be a Moderna vaccination clinic at Binhi At Ani, the Filipino Community Center in Kahului located at 780 Oneheʻe Avenue. There will be several nurses and nursing students who are fluent in Filipino dialects on hand. The clinic is open to the public.

The course follows up on research and interviews with Native Hawaiian patients in which who expressed disillusionment with a lack of cultural sensitivity demonstrated by their providers.
