#Waiale Road

The man involved in the officer-involved shooting succumbed to his injuries at the scene, according to an update from Maui police. The individual is described as a 40-year-old Pāʻia man. Police say the man’s identity is being withheld pending notification of his next of kin.

The community is invited to learn more about the proposed extension of Waiʻale Road from East Waikō Road southward to Honoapiʻilani Highway and offer comments during the public meeting, which will be held Thursday, Dec. 5, 2024, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. via Zoom.

During his visit, US Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg provided updates on key infrastructure projects, including critical investments in the Honoapiʻilani Highway. He visited West Maui as part of the administrationʻs efforts to reaffirm its commitment to wildfire recovery in Lahaina.

The Maui Department of Water Supply reports that a water service outage will occur on June 1, 2023 from 10 p.m. to June 2, 2023 at 7 a.m. in Wailuku. All water services will be affected in the vicinity of the intersection of Waiʻale Road and Kuikahi Drive.

Kaulana Mahina expects to begin delivering homes in the late summer of 2023, with a lottery process opening in the months prior.

“This multimillion-dollar investment in Maui County will improve road safety and alleviate traffic, but more importantly, it will green light construction of 1,666 Central Maui units that residents can afford to rent or purchase,” said Mayor Victorino.

Waikapū Country Town is the County’s largest planned residential housing development in decades.  Original plans called for 1,146 market-priced units and 287 residential workforce housing units, with the potential for 146 ʻohana units. If approved, Mayor Victorino’s proposal will increase the total number of residential workforce housing units to 500.

The County of Maui Department of Water Supply will be replacing a waterline on Kaohu Street in Wailuku from Monday, July 6, to Friday, July 24, 2015. The work will be performed in phases, with the first week of work to focus on the section of Kaohu Street from Waiale Road to Market Street.
