Parks officials claim organic products approved for use haven’t been working well at the golf course, but one council member says they’ve had three years to get into compliance.

A fire reported early Thursday morning that burned approximately 25 acres in Waiehu mauka of Kahekili Highway near Maka’ala Drive was declared 100% contained Friday morning, Maui Fire Department officials said.

Below is the text of a letter Maui Now received from concerned resident following the Mayor’s announcement of a proposed closure of the Waiheu Golf Course.

The changes are intended to allow only bonafide residents to qualify for discounted play at Waiehu Golf Course, by excluding non-residents who had used a loophole in the previous system to obtain a resident card and pay resident rates to golf, authorities said in a press release announcing the new requirements.

In addition to the Waiehu Pro Shop concession that underwent renovations, the facility also added 100 new golf carts, and began improvements to the fairways, greens and tees six months ago.
