After decades of leadership as the Wailea Community Association general manager, Frank “Bud” Pikrone has announced his plan to retire this year. A search for Wailea Community Association’s next general manager has been launched by the Inkinen Executive Search firm.

The Wailea Community Association (WCA) started supporting the University of Hawaiʻi Maui College Nursing Program during the pandemic. Since then, it has donated almost $300,000, with almost $100,000 of that just this year.

Maui’s community-based water-quality monitoring program Hui O Ka Wai Ola has resumed water-quality testing at four locations in South Maui under a new partnership with the Wailea Community Association. Under the partnership, testing has resumed at Kilohana Drive (Keawakapu North site), Keawakapu South, Ulua Beach and Palauʻea Beach.

A project to build as many as 975 homes, including workforce housing, in the master-planned Wailea Resort community and a neighboring lot in Kīhei has begun drawing fire from opponents who say the Ledcor South Maui project’s draft environmental impact statement is inadequate.

For a third consecutive year, the Wailea Community Association is providing monetary support to the University of Hawaiʻi Maui Campus nursing program, in hopes of increasing healthcare resources in the Maui community.

The Wailea Community Association has contributed more than $18,000 over the past two years to the University of Hawaiʻi Maui College to support all students in the nursing program.

Just in time for the holidays, Wailea Community Association’s General Manager, Bud Pikrone presented a check in the amount of $10,000 to Marlene Rice, Development Director for the Maui Food Bank on behalf of the Wailea Community.    

Toy donations were collected by volunteers at the Wailea Fire Station and will be distributed to more than 25 different human services agencies in Maui County.

New, unwrapped toys can be dropped off at the Wailea Fire Station and the Wailea Community Association office located in Hotel Wailea, now through Dec. 17.  

Maui Food Bank received a $10,000 Donation from Wailea Community Association as a result of their #WaileaDineOut promotion.

The Wailea Community Association committed to a partnership with the UH Maui nursing program and is helping 41 graduates from the class of 2021 obtain their nursing licensure by funding the costs associated with taking the National Council Licensure Examination for each UHMC graduate.

Organizers say the 2015 Holiday Toy Drive was the most successful to date and both Maui United Way and Friends of the Children’s Justice Center intend on continuing the partnership next year.

The Maui Food Bank received around $6,600 in donations this holiday season from the results of Restaurant Week Wailea 2015. Around 20 restaurants took part.

The public is invited to donate new, un-wrapped toys through Dec. 20 at the Wailea Fire Station and at the Wailea Community Association office, located in Hotel Wailea.

Toys collected will be gathered and distributed to more than 25 different Human Services agencies in Maui County.
