Preliminary results from this year’s Charity Walk show an impressive total of $1.62 million raised in Maui County to directly benefit more than 74 Maui County nonprofit organizations. This “day-of” total broke last year’s record, however, funding is still being accepted until May 31.

Hale Makua Health Services, a Maui-born nonprofit serving the island for 80 years, today announced two landmark projects inspired by the community. The first project is an innovative health care complex in collaboration with Hawaiʻi Medical Service Association (HMSA) currently referred to as the “CarePlex.” The second project is a 100-unit workforce housing development.

The 52nd Maui County Senior Fair will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 15, at the Queen Kaʻahumanu Center in Kahului.

The event had been announced last month as the 2026 PGA Tour season opener to be held Jan. 8-11 at the Plantation Course. The event had an estimated economic impact of $50 million per year on Maui. The tour did not elaborate on the status of the event past 2026, but noted that ongoing drought conditions, water conservation requirements, agronomic conditions and logistical challenges were the main factors in the event not being held this year on Maui.

Richard Coloma, Community Health Worker, received the 2025 Peer Award in Public Health from the Healthcare Association of Hawaii (HAH), while Maria Eliza Sanado, Social Services Assistant, earned an HAH Scholarship to pursue her master’s degree in Social Work.

A Maui County Council committee recommended approval Monday of a resolution expressing support for conveying public land in the vicinity of the Kahului Community Center and Kokua Pool for a 100-unit workforce rental housing project by Hale Makua Health Services in partnership with Alaka’i Development.

US Rep. Jill Tokuda will be the keynote speaker this week when Hawaiʻi Job Corps Center holds its commencement ceremony at 1 p.m. Friday at the Maunaloa campus. Eighteen young men and women will receive certificates in trades such as culinary arts, facility maintenance, hospitality & lodging and business technologies.

“We never got a generator because we knew way back when if we ever had a major catastrophe of that significance all our physicians would report to the hospital because it’d be that severe,” Maui Medical Group Administrator Cliff Alakai said in explaining why the clinics would have to shut down if they lost power under Hawaiian Electric’s new plan.

The Maui County Council’s Housing and Land Use Committee voted 8-1 Wednesday to recommend passage of a bill to allow a 500-square-foot increase in the size of secondary farm dwellings in agricultural districts on Maui and Lānaʻi.

Hale Makua Health Services announced the establishment of an Emergency Disaster Relief Fund to help those affected by emergencies or disasters like the Maui wildfires last month.

According to the organization, Mālama I Ke Ola Health Center will focus on supporting access to Lahaina and the community in West Maui. In partnership with the Hui No Ke Ola Pono, Mauliola Pharmacy, Maui Medical Group and the Maui District Health Office, Mālama I Ke Ola Health Center will provide outpatient access from the Lahaina Comprehensive Health Center.

The program, which is designed to provide students with hands-on experience and knowledge about various industries in the county, covered areas such as sustainable science, conservation and agriculture, economic and workforce development, Maui governance, healthcare, and construction and technology.
