The partners reached a milestone in the cleanup of Lahaina with: 1,481 Tax Map Keys (TMKs) Fully Assessed; 168 Tons of Household Hazardous Materials (HHM) and Bulk Asbestos Material (BAM) Removed; 6,371 Samples Taken; 3,430 Vehicles Located; and 6,241 Trees Assessed with 202 Trees Marked as Protected and 4,678 Trees Tagged.

Emergency crews responded to a tarmac accident involving an aircraft and a piece of ground equipment on the tarmac at Kahului Airport this morning. Marvin Moniz, Airports District Manager, DOT Airports Division on Maui tells Maui Now that one employee was transported to the hospital.

With the Lahaina fire — that has led to the closure of about 600 businesses, according to the Hawai’i Small Business Development Center, and forced many others to change course — the Hawaiian Airlines Made in Maui County Festival has become a lifeline for some businesses and a symbol of economic recovery for Maui.

The 10th Annual Hawaiian Airlines Made In Maui County Festival will offer a complimentary shuttle service to and from the Maui Arts & Cultural Center on Saturday, the main day of the event.

Hawaiian Airlines restarted nonstop service between Tokyo Haneda and the Ellison Onizuka Kona International Airport at Keahole – a route that was paused on March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Pack your patience and grace.” “Do not enter the impacted area of Lahaina Town or take photos of the area, even from afar.” “Support local businesses.” These are some of the messages being shared by the Hawai‘i Tourism Authority, as one of the main questions being asked by visitors is how they can support the people of Maui in its recovery.

In the wake of the wildfires that devastated South Maui, the festival this year contributed $58.2K from ticket and t-shirt sales, as well as direct donations, to the Hawaiʻi Community Foundation’s Maui Strong Fund. Vendors together donated approximately a quarter million dollars to Maui wildfire relief efforts. 

Hawaiian Airlines today announced it will restart service between Tokyo’s Haneda Airport and Ellison Onizuka Kona International Airport, operating three flights Oct. 29. through Nov. 4 before restarting regular weekly service on Nov. 22. The airline will gradually return to its original three times weekly schedule in March 2024.

The Downtown Athletic Club of Hawaiʻi has launched a “Luna Strong” fundraising campaign to assist the Lahainaluna student athletes and coaches who were displaced by last monthʻs fire. The fund was created through a request from the school’s athletic program, and has already collected $325,000 in monetary and in-kind donations to kick off the campaign.

The state Department of Health’s Maui District Health Office continues its response to the Maui wildfires. Through its Maui District Health Office and local partners, the Department provided updates on behavioral health services, emergency prescription assistance, unsafe water advisories, and the prevention of respiratory and vector-borne diseases.

Hawaiian Airlines is extending its operations today with three additional late-night flights to Honolulu from Kahului to help evacuate travelers affected by brush fires on Maui. The new flights were timed to meet travelers expected to arrive at Kahului via Maui County buses. Flights are scheduled to depart Kahului starting at 11:10 p.m. today through 2 a.m. tomorrow. Hawaiian earlier today added six extra flights between Honolulu and Kahului to accommodate departures out of Maui, as well as support emergency response efforts. Currently, four extra Kahului-Honolulu flights have been added for tomorrow, Aug. 10.  

Hawaiian Airlines and Honolulu Community College are celebrating the success of their partnership to graduate more local students as aviation maintenance technicians. 

Two new members of the Hawai‘i Tourism Authority Board of Directors were appointed by Governor Josh Green, M.D. Hawaiian Airlines’ Blaine Miyasato and the Department of Business, Economic Development, and Tourism’s James Kunane Tokioka fill seats for four-year terms that expire June 30, 2026.

Mokulele Airlines will suspend its daily flights between Hilo and Kahului beginning Aug. 1, 2023. Mokulele will redeploy those aircraft to provide additional service to Molokaʻi and to add a new evening flight between Kahului and Kona.

Mana Up and Hawaiian Airlines announces Season 3 of a live-streamed Meet the Makers series, bringing six new experiences highlighting Hawaiʻi-based companies and their unique products. The series kicks off with an episode highlighting Duke Kahanamoku, plus an episode featuring Maui Nui Venison and award-winning Chef Chris Kajioka. 

The 29th Annual Made in Hawaiʻi Festival will be held for the first time at the iconic Hawaiʻi Convention Center, Aug. 18-20, 2023. The three-day event will showcase made-in-Hawai‘i products, including products from vendors in Maui County.

The Maui Chamber of Commerce is now accepting Product Vendor and Food Truck Vendor applications for the 2023 Hawaiian Airlines Made in Maui County Festival. The 10th Annual event will be held at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center on Nov. 3 and 4, 2023.

Hawaiian Airlines this afternoon gathered its guests to commemorate the inauguration of nonstop weekly flights between Honolulu and Rarotonga, Cook Islands. Hawaiian previously operated the HNL-RAR route from 1987 to 1993.

Fukuoka becomes the fourth destination in Japan that Hawaiian serves, joining Tokyo International Airport (Haneda), Narita International Airport, and Kansai International Airport.
