Maui County logged its second wettest season in 30 years during the 2025–2026 wet season. Rainfall totals ran 100 to 250% of average across most of the county and catastrophic flooding hit multiple areas statewide, according to a summary released this week by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

Dead coconut rhinoceros beetle found near Kahului Airport on Maui
A single dead adult coconut rhinoceros beetle (CRB) was collected by the Maui Invasive Species Committee from a detection trap at Kahului Airport on the afternoon of April 1, 2026. No other CRB were detected in the other traps checked. Personnel from MISC and DAB are conducting surveys and deploying additional detection traps. Residents, businesses and landowner within a two-mile radius from Kahului Airport are asked to check coconut palms and other large palms for possible signs of CRB feeding damage.

Consumer Alert: ACE Rent A Car Maui operations have ceased
The state of Hawaiʻi Office of Consumer Protection is alerting consumers who have reservations with ACE Rent A Car Maui to make alternative arrangements, as OCP has confirmed with company personnel at Ace Customer Care that the company has ceased doing business on Maui and has no intention of honoring existing bookings. Travelers who pre-booked rental vehicles through this company can expect to find no shuttle service available and no personnel to assist them upon their arrival at Kahului Airport (OGG).
Travel Advisory issued for Hawaiʻi airports amid severe weather
A travel advisory has been issued for Hawaiʻi Airports as severe weather conditions persist statewide. The Hawai‘i Department of Transportation advises travelers to arrive at the airport at least three hours prior to their scheduled departure time for transpacific flights and at least 90 minutes prior to scheduled departure time for interisland flights.

Overnight closure for paving of Haleakalā Hwy near Kahului Airport , Sept. 20-21
The closure will be from 10 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 20 to 5 a.m., Sunday, Sept. 21. Haleakalā Highway on the west side of the Hāna Highway intersection will be fully closed to traffic. Those needing to access the airport will need to head to the closest entrance through Mayor Elmer F. Cravalho Way (Route 3800).
