Maui Fire Department Warns Public of Phone Scam
The Maui Fire Department is warning the public about a telephone scam that is currently being attempted in Maui County. The scam comes amid a large wildfire that has burned 5,300 acres below Pukalani since it first started Thursday afternoon.

The center of Erick will pass by around 175 miles south of the Big Island tonight, with Tropical-storm-force winds extending outward up to 105 miles from the center, according to the Central Pacific Hurricane Center.
5300 Acres Burned, Fire Below Pukalani 80% Contained
The Maui Fire Department is responding to a brush fire adjacent to Haleakala Highway below Pukalani. The fire is at least five acres and growing rapidly due to strong winds.

Maui County officials continue to prepare for possible heavy weather impacts from tropical cyclones Erick and Flossie and are reminding residents and visitors to prepare their households.
TRAFFIC ALERT: Hāna Highway to CLOSE Week Nights Aug. 12-30
All lanes and all directions of Hāna Highway will be closed on weeknights from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. between Aug. 12 and 30, 2019. No closures will occur on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday nights.
