Molokaʻi man suffers critical injuries in ATV accident, flown to Oʻahu for treatment

A 78-year-old Molokaʻi man was transported via medevac to Oʻahu after suffering critical injuries in an ATV accident involving three men in the mountainous terrain above Kaunakakai. The two other men, both 72-year-old Molokaʻi residents, sustained minor injuries.

National Weather Service: May rain gauges show below average rainfall

The driest areas were on the leeward coast and in Maui’s Central Valley. Many rain gauge sites recorded less than 10% of their May average rainfall, including gauges at Keālia Pond and Kīhei 2, which had zero rainfall for the month.

Maui police host child safety seat inspection, June 7

The Maui Police Department will host a child safety seat inspection event within the Maui Marketplace parking lot from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday, June 7, 2025. The event is held in collaboration with the Keiki Injury Prevention Coalition, the Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation, and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Episode 24 of Kīlauea eruption generates 16,500-foot plume, 980-foot lava fountains

Episode 24 of the ongoing Halemaʻumaʻu eruption at Kīlauea began just before 9 p.m. last night, and featured lava fountaining from the north vent reaching 980 feet.  Scientists with the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory say the fountain generated a plume that reached 16,500 feet above ground level.  The episode ended abruptly at 4:28 a.m. today.
