The Big Island Summits are under a Winter Storm Watch from Friday evening through late Saturday night with heavy snow possible, according to the National Weather Service.
Grow Some Good Announces Scholarship for High School Seniors
Through generous gifts from major donors, like Jeff Bezos, Grow Some Good is able to provide direct support through this scholarship fund. For the fiscal year 2021-2022, the nonprofit will award two scholarships of $1,000 each to local high school seniors pursuing relevant college programs.
Imua Discovery Garden to Host Inaugural Keiki Holiday Festival, Dec. 11

The Kīpahulu District of Haleakalā National Park will remain open this weekend from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Maui Department of Public Works road closure along Hāna Highway has been postponed.
Update/Canceled: Maui Flood Advisory Until 8:15 p.m.
At 5:13 p.m. HST, radar indicated heavy rain over the West Maui Mountains. Rain was falling at a rate of 1 to 2 inches per hour. Some locations that will experience flooding include: Kahului, Waiheʻe, Kahakuloa, Waiehu, Wailuku and Waikapū.

A follow-up inspection is scheduled for Dec. 2, 2021 to determine the status of the clean-up efforts before being allowed to reopen to the public.
BREAKING: Preliminary Results Detect Petroleum Product in Navy Water System
The Hawai‘i Department of Health says they have detected “petroleum product” in water samples from one site on the Navy Water System affected by fuel-like odors. The preliminary analysis was conducted on samples from Red Hill Elementary School collected Tuesday.
Dec. 1, 2021 COVID-19 Update: 108 New Cases, 8 Deaths
Of today’s 108 cases, there were 79 cases identified as confirmed, and +29 probable cases were added to the count. The confirmed cases included: 33 on O‘ahu (+18 probable); three on Hawai‘i Island; 17 on Maui (+8 probable); nine on Kaua‘i; and 17 Hawai‘i residents diagnosed while out of state (+3 probable).
UHMC “Sea of Smiles” Event Offers Free Dental Procedures to Island Keiki, Dec. 11
The first “Sea of Smiles” Dental Day takes place at the University of Hawaiʻi Maui College campus from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 11. At the event, island keiki under the age of 18 can receive free x-rays, dental exams, teeth cleaning, fillings and other dental services.
