Governor David Ige is reviewing a list of six nominees forwarded to him by the Judicial Selection Commission, for consideration to fill a vacancy on the Intermediate Court of Appeals.
Dept. of Liquor Control Offers Certification Exam and Classes, June 18 and 24
The Department of Liquor Control offers its certification exam and class on June 18 and 24 in Kahului. The exam and class are being offered for first-time employees of liquor establishments who are required to obtain the card to be employed and for those whose certification cards expired prior to March 1, 2020.
Starting in July, Paratransit Monthly Pass Replaced by Coupon Book
Monthly and daily passes for riders on paratransit buses operated by Maui Economic Opportunity will be eliminated and replaced with a coupon booklet program beginning July 1, 2021.
Additional Funding Proposed for Haleakalā and Puʻuhonua o Hōnaunau National Parks
The administration’s request includes $6,125,000 to protect 3,019 acres at Haleakalā National Park on Maui and $150,000 to protect an additional three acres at the Puʻuhonua o Hōnaunau National Historical Park on the west side of Hawaiʻi Island.
Hawaiʻi AG Joins Coalition to Secure Settlement Requiring Asbestos Reporting
Under a settlement reached by a coalition of 11 states joined by Hawaiʻi Attorney General Clare E. Connors, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has agreed to require the chemical industry to provide the agency with information about the use and importation of asbestos needed to protect the public from the serious health risks posed by exposure to highly toxic asbestos.
Recreational Fishing Licenses to be Required for Visitors
Gov. Ige signed a law that establishes and requires a marine recreational fishing license for all non-Hawai‘i residents who want to fish from the shorelines or a boat in Hawaiian waters.

An additional $14.2 million will be allocated to Hawaiʻi under the American Rescue Plan to provide emergency housing vouchers for over 700 people and families who are experiencing or at risk of becoming homeless.
Multi-Level State Office Building Proposed for Construction on Grounds of Old Wailuku Post Office Site
An up to six-level state office building over a five-level parking structure is proposed for development on the site of the old Wailuku Post Office at 70 South High Street in Wailuku. The parcel is currently being utilized as a parking lot for the County of Maui with approximately 45 reserved stalls.

Maui Police Warn of Scams Involving Spoof Callers
The most recent reported ongoing scam is spoof callers claiming to be a representative of a federal law enforcement agency or local government, including the Maui County Department of the Prosecuting Attorney. The caller tells call recipients that there is a warrant or some other legal sanction pending against them.

Voluntary Water Conservation Requested of Upcountry Residents
The Department of Water Supply is requesting that Upcountry Maui consumers voluntarily conserve water to reduce consumption. This request comes after recent high water use Upcountry, in addition to a reduction of water supply at the Wailoa Ditch, which supplies water to the Kamole Water Treatment Facility.
