Both an evacuation warning and an evacuation advisory have been issued at 6 p.m. today, March 14, 2026, for Wahikuli and Leialiʻi areas below Ka Laʻi Ola in Lahaina due to fast-moving floodwaters from nearby retention basins nearing capacity, according to Maui Emergency Management Agency (MEMA). Warnings and advisories are not mandatory evacuation orders.

The NWS reports that flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible. The greatest chance for impacts is tonight is on windward Big Island, windward Maui, and over Kauaʻi County.

For Big Island and Maui County, the greatest flood risk remains along southeast facing mountain slopes as southerly flow more efficiently lifts rich moisture up these slopes.

Previously located under the County of Maui Department of Planning, the County Flood Hazard Area regulations are now being administered through the County Department of Public Works. Moving the regulations aims to enhance coordination and efficiency of flood protection.

Maui is under a Flood Advisory until 3:15 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 7, 2020. The National Weather Service reports that at 12:14 a.m., radar showed heavy rain persisting over East Maui near Kauaō and Hāna. Area residents reported flash flooding over the road at Mile 31 of the Hāna Highway at around 10:30 p.m. on Thursday.

The Kaʻa Point parking lot at Kanahā Beach Park is closed due to heavy rains that caused flooding.

The greatest potential for coastal flooding impacts will be this morning and on Friday, especially around the time of the peak high tide, which occurs between midnight and daybreak in most areas.
