The rate for parking between six to seven hours will increase from $23 to $24, the rate for parking between seven to eight hours will increase from $25 to $27 and the rate for parking eight hours or more (including overnight parking) will increase from $27 to $29. There is a free 15-minute grace period for drivers dropping off or picking up passengers.

Maui County logged its second wettest season in 30 years during the 2025–2026 wet season. The US Department of Transportation has given Alaska Airlines permission to close on its $1.9 billion acquisition of Hawaiian Airlines, after the carriers agreed to maintain key Hawaii routes and adopt consumer protections. This exemption allows the carriers, which are respectively the fifth and tenth largest domestic airlines, to finalize their merger while maintaining separate operations until DOT rules on their transfer application.

Mauiʻs Kahului Airport (OGG) will receive $14.3 million in AIP supplemental grant funds for apron light replacement for enhanced safety. Itʻs one of four airport projects identified in Hawaiʻi to improve operations.

As if airports weren’t busy enough, Hawaiʻi is poised to break the all-time record number of Pacific State travelers as well as become a top destination for US travelers over the extended Independence Day holiday.

The Hawai‘i Department of Transportation will temporarily close Runway 8R/26L at the Daniel K. Inouye International Airport on Wednesday, Feb. 7, from 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for taxiway and runway repairs. All other runways at HNL will be available for operations and HDOT has coordinated with airlines and other partners to minimize impacts to flights.

The number of travelers this holiday season may approach pre-pandemic counts. There are a total of 1,200 public parking stalls available at Kahului Airport on Maui.

Since the state-of-the art, 230,000 sq. ft. facility opened on Aug. 27, airport officials said the public response has been favorable with both travelers and workers impressed by the unique design features and also how it has improved the airport’s operations. 

A new report by Reason Foundation, a nonprofit think tank dedicated to free markets, found Hawaiʻi’s two largest airports owned and operated by the state could be worth up to $3.6 billion combined via a long-term lease to private airport companies and investors.

Facial imaging technology is now in use at five Hawaiʻi airports to complete Phase III of the thermal temperature screening and facial imaging project designed to detect passengers with possible COVID-19 arriving on trans-Pacific flights, according to the Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation (HDOT).

A facial imaging tracking system and monitoring control rooms will be installed throughout the terminal to track a suspected passenger until they are intercepted for further screening. Total cost is $18.5 million, with an additional $17.5 million for a 10-year maintenance program.

Of the 90 individuals who are self-monitoring with public health supervision, 83 are on O‘ahu, 5 are on Hawai‘i Island, 1 is on Maui, and 2 are on Kaua‘i. 

No travel restrictions are in place.

According to the department, drivers often do not notice or disregard the current height clearance warnings.
