Haleakalā National Park’s Summit and Kīpahulu Districts remain closed to the public through at least the evening of Monday, Aug. 21, 2023. Visitors should not plan to drive to or visit the park until it has been officially reopened.

Haleakalā National Park’s Summit and Kīpahulu Districts remain closed to the public through the evening of Friday, Aug. 18, 2023.  The National Park Service advises the public: “Please do not attempt to visit the park during the closure as both districts are closed to entry.”

Haleakalā National Park is hosting its version of National Park Week, April 22-30. All of the events are free but park entrance fees still apply.  

The Summit District of Haleakalā National Park is closed above Leleiwi Overlook at 8,840 feet due to hazardous road conditions.

Haleakalā National Park will be offering special programs throughout National Park Week, which runs April 16-24.

Reservations for Palikū wilderness cabin will go live on Recreation.gov beginning Monday, Aug. 23, 2021 between 7-7:30 a.m. Hawaiian Standard Time. The first available date for a Palikū cabin reservation is Friday, Aug. 27, 2021. Reservations can be made up to six months in advance and will be available on a rolling six-month basis thereafter.

Visitors will soon be able to reserve and stay overnight in the cabins located in Haleakalā Crater. Reservations for wilderness cabins Hōlua and Kapalaoa will go live on Recreation.gov beginning July 1, 2021 at 7 a.m. HST.

Visitors to Haleakalā National Park will soon be able to reserve Hosmer Grove Campground campsites in advance of their visit. Reservations will go live on Recreation.gov beginning on June 1, 2021.

Hosmer Grove Campground at Haleakalā National Park closed last night due to rising flood waters on the road leading to the campground.

A man convicted of assaulting his spouse by strangulation at Haleakalā National Park last year, was sentenced three-and-a-half years in prison yesterday.

Hazardous trees and branches were removed from Hosmer Grove, and the campground was re-opened today following a three week closure.

The Hosmer Grove Campground and Nature Trail is closed due to hazardous trees; and the Pools at ʻOheʻo is closed due to effects from Tropical Storm Darby.

Maui firefighters are conducting a mountain rescue at Haleakalā following reports of a hiker with an ankle injury.

High winds forced the closure of Hosmer Grove on Maui; a brush fire forced the temporary closure of the Hāna Highway in Wailua; and Kahului residents are experiencing an afternoon power outage.

The gazing activity gives participants an opportunity to learn more about the night sky and hear Hawaiian stories about the stars.

The closure begins at noon on Monday June 6, and continues through Wednesday, June 8, or until work is complete.
