Maui County provided $1.5 million to bring back the beloved fair that was held for 97 years, but not since 2019 due to reasons that included the COVID-19 pandemic and rising transportation costs for amusement rides.

Former Mayor Michael Victorino will lead the Maui County Fair Parade as Grand Marshal, according to an announcement by Mayor Richard Bissen. The iconic parade starts at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 2, 2025, in Kahului, marking the start of the four-day 98th Maui County Fair.

A group of unsheltered residents living on Amala Place in Kahului sued the county in 2021, saying they weren’t given enough notice and weren’t granted a hearing to make their case before the sweep.

About 50 members of the Lahaina Honolua Senior Citizens Club socialized, won prizes through Bingo and lucky drawings and honored one of their own for turning 90 years old Wednesday in a step toward regrouping and recovering after the wildfires.

Mayor Michael Victorino and his administration are seeking community input during the formulation of the proposed FY 2023-24 budget.

2022 sales price guidelines estimate that a family making $60,000 annually could pay $289,100 for a 3-bedroom home. The new sales price guidelines would bring the price of a 3-bedroom home closer to $157,000 for the same family, according to the Mayor’s announcement.

Mayor Michael Victorino expressed appreciation to the Maui County Council for approving resolutions accepting the dedication of 45 acres of land from A&B Properties for parks and open space.  The acquisition was finalized at the councilʻs meeting that adjourned on Monday.

For qualified veterans, real property owned and occupied as a home will be levied an annual real property tax of $150.

Mayor Victorino hosts a talk story session about Maui County’s post-pandemic progress and future plans. The Bissen Movement announced the Maui Chamber of Commerce (COMPAC) has endorsed Richard Bissen for Maui County mayor.

A pilot project that allows houseless residents to sleep overnight in their vehicles in county lots could begin as early as October, and the first “safe sleeping zone” may be established at the J. Walter Cameron Center in Wailuku, according to an announcement today.

“This plan will focus on climate adaptation and carbon mitigation strategies for Maui County,” Mayor Victorino said. “Our residents know this place best, and we value their recommendations to help shape the changes we need to make right away and into the future.” 

“This multimillion-dollar investment in Maui County will improve road safety and alleviate traffic, but more importantly, it will green light construction of 1,666 Central Maui units that residents can afford to rent or purchase,” said Mayor Victorino.

Maui Mayor Michael Victorino along with the Maui Police and Fire Departments teamed up with Pacific Cancer foundation to launch its annual “GO PINK! Challenge” on Friday, Aug. 5. The Pacific Cancer Foundation campaign raises funds and awareness for Maui’s cancer community.

“We have parks for baseball, pickleball, tennis, and schools, but we’ve never had something for our hālau, yet hula is what we share with the world,” said Mayor Michael Victorino.

Maui Mayor Michael Victorino hosted US Senator Brian Schatz and Ed Sniffen, Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation Deputy Director on Friday for a site visit to discuss plans to realign Honoapiʻilani Highway.  Combined State and Federal funding for the project totals $90 million.

The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals ruled Thursday in favor of Maui County to keep its ongoing litigation against Big Oil in Hawaii state courts, instead of moving the lawsuit to federal court.
