Maui Kupono Builders in conjunction with the County Department of Water Supply will perform work on the County’s water system as part of the Makawao Avenue pavement reconstruction project.

Maui police say the man wanted in connection with a deadly crash in Pukalani last week, has since been taken into custody. Kaleo Kubo, 31, was taken into custody without incident on Monday, Dec. 15, 2025, according to an update provided by Maui police.

A Maui teen has succumbed to injuries sustained in an early morning hit-and-run crash that occurred on Haleakalā Highway early Wednesday morning in Pukalani. Maui police have since identified the victim as Mason Pang, 19, of Makawao.

Maui police are looking for a 31-year-old man wanted in connection with a near-fatal motor vehicle collision reported early Wednesday morning in Pukalani. Police say the man, identified as Kaleo Kubo, fled the scene on foot. Kubo, who is known to frequent Central Maui, is wanted in connection with this motor vehicle collision and is also wanted for an active no-bail warrant.

Strong winds have downed a tree and traffic light on the intersection of Kula Highway and Old Haleakalā Highway near King Kekaulike High School, an area referred to as “five trees.”

Maui police released a timeline of activity on Tuesday evening surrounding the recent IED investigation on Maui and the arrest on Saturday of a Kahului man.

The incident occurred on Old Haleakalā Highway on Aug. 8, 2024 when an IED, which had been placed in a nearby trash receptacle, exploded. The explosion struck a passing vehicle, and the driver was transported to the hospital and released, according to the FBI.

Kula Highway is now open. All lanes are open as of 8:33 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 24, in both the mauka and makai directions.

Maui motorists are advised of night closures on Haleakalā Highway at the Makawao Avenue intersection, June 22-24, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.

A mainline valve replacement project will affect water service for eight hours in Pukalani from 9 p.m. Monday, March 22, to 5 a.m. Tuesday, March 23, the Department of Water Supply announced.

All water customers in the Pukalani area will have their water shut-off from approximately 9 p.m. on Thursday to 4 a.m. on Friday.

In Pāʻia, an alternating lane closure will be in effect on the Hāna Hwy in one direction between the Pāʻia Mini-Bypass and Ulupua Pl.

The project is expected to take seven weeks to complete and has resulted in the closure of the Old Haleakalā Highway between Kuleana Street to approximately 400 feet southeast of the Cargo Road.

Starting Monday, Nov. 23, 2015, Old Haleakalā Highway will be closed in the south bound direction from Makawao Avenue to Kula Highway due to pedestrian safety concerns, according to an announcement by BCP Construction.

The state Department of Transportation has three projects scheduled this week on Maui County roads, including projects in Kahului, Kāʻanapali and Wailuku.

Starting on Monday, May 18, traffic lanes will be shifted for work on the Old Haleakalā Highway near Aʻalele Street.

The funds are aimed at improving safety in the area, which is frequently used by students attending King Kekaulike High School, officials said.
