Piʻilani Highway is now OPEN following a near-fatal traffic collision reported earlier this evening. The accident was reported on the highway between Kūlanihākoʻi Street to Piʻikea Avenue. Police tell Maui Now that one of the vehicles involved was a motorcycle.

A brush fire in Kīhei is now contained at 1.5 acres. Mop-up operations were already underway at around 3:30 p.m.

A grand opening and blessing ceremony was held today for the first county-owned roundabout on Maui. The new Kihei roundabout, located at the intersection of Piikea Avenue and Liloa Drive, is also the first full sized roundabout on Maui, that can accommodate both truck and county bus traffic.
