One year after its establishment as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, Hoʻōla iā Mauiakama Disaster Long Term Recovery Group is marking a milestone in its efforts to support survivors of the August 2023 wildfires.

Sacred Hearts School received a $15,000 grant in mid-November from the Hawaiʻi Rotary District 5000 Foundation Maui Fires Relief Fund to support the school lunch program for students in need. 

Sacred Hearts School hosts its Fall Festival on Saturday, Nov. 8, 2025, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 2530 Kekaʻa Drive, the school’s temporary campus in Kā‘anapali, Maui. The special one-day event transforms the annual school fair into a celebration of the journey of H.E.A.R.T.S. and resilience, with proceeds benefiting the school’s H.E.A.R.T.S. of Resilience Campaign.

This Saturday, Sept. 6, the community will gather for Lights for Lahaina, an evening dedicated to reflection, healing, and the enduring spirit of Lahaina. From 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., the historic grounds of Maria Lanakila Catholic Church will be transformed into a space where Maui’s ʻohana can come together to honor the past and embrace hope for the future.

An inaugural Lights for Lahaina & Light March is scheduled to take place on the evening of Saturday, Sept. 6, 2025. The free event provides a chance for the community to come together, inviting all to reflect on Lahaina’s past, celebrate its resilience, and move forward with hope into the future.

On Tuesday, July 15, 2025, Carolyn Wright will be the speaker at the Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset meeting. The topic of her presentation is “Maui Academy of Performing Arts: Enriching Lives and Building Community through the Arts for 50 Years”

Hoʻōla iā Mauiakama Long Term Recovery Group has received a $760,528 grant from the Maui Strong Fund of the Hawaiʻi Community Foundation. The award will launch the new Volunteer Rebuild Housing Program, expand disaster recovery operations, and enhance coordination of direct services for families impacted by the August 2023 wildfires on Maui.

On Tuesday, June 17, 2025, Jaylou Cabrera will be the speaker at the Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset meeting. Cabrera will share information about the new West Maui YMCA Resource Center.

Construction is set to begin in October 2025 as part of ongoing recovery efforts.

DHL Express, as part of its DHL Helping Learners initiative, donated 50 refurbished laptops to Lahaina Sacred Hearts School, which was destroyed in the 2023 Maui fires.

Sacred Hearts temporary school now consists of 13 air-conditioned classrooms housed within existing buildings on the leased property, two portable enrichment classrooms, a school office, mental health counseling rooms and maintenance areas.

Maria Lanakila Catholic Church reopened last week in downtown Lahaina, resplendent in white Christmas lights and even capped by a three-quarter moon high over its spire in the West Maui night sky.

On Tuesday, Oct. 1, Belia Paul will be the speaker at the Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset’s meeting, the club announced. Paul will share information about A Honu Space – The Path to Peace: Organizing, Caring and Planning for Seniors.

Sacred Hearts School principal Tonata Lolesio will be the speaker at the Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 3. Lolesio will share information about “Sacred Hearts School — A Year of Unity, Faith Resilience and Hope since the Lahaina fires.”

This month, over a dozen Sacred Hearts School teachers each received $500 Teachers Need Us (TNU) grants sponsored by OluKai’s Ama OluKai Foundation to purchase basic supplies for their classrooms.

Spirits were lifted for hundreds of West Maui families this week, as Sacred Hearts School celebrated the blessing of their new temporary campus on Friday.

Three West Maui Rotary Clubs came together earlier this month to host donation drives aimed at collecting school supplies for children in need. In just three days, 15 boxes of school supplies were gathered, and more than $1,300 raised.

Between July 19 and July 21, three Lahaina Rotary Clubs will collect school supplies and funds for children in need. The collection effort will be held each day from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the entrance to the Lahaina Cannery Mall next to Longs Drugs.

Sacred Hearts School is accepting applications for enrollment and financial aid for the 2024-2025 school year at its new campus located at 2530 Kekaʻa Drive in Kāʻanapali, Maui. The school will provide classroom education for its Early Learning Center through 8th grade, as well as a High School Virtual program with in-person facilitation. To help families learn more about the school, an Enrollment Open House will be held on Saturday, June 15, 2024, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. During this event, interested families can visit the campus, talk to school administrators, and learn about enrollment and tuition assistance.

Sacred Hearts School held its 2024 eighth grade graduation on Wednesday, May 29 at Sacred Hearts Mission Church in Kapalua, marking a significant milestone in a year defined by extraordinary challenges and remarkable resilience. The school, which was originally located in Lahaina, transitioned to Kapalua following the devastating fire on Aug. 8, 2023, that severely damaged half of their Lahaina campus.
