61-year-old man critically injured, bit by shark at Waiehu, Maui

Maui emergency crews responded to a report of a shark attack incident in the area known as “Sand Piles” at Waiehu on Maui at around 7:08 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 1, 2024. The 61-year-old male patient was transported in critical condition to the Maui Memorial Medical Center Emergency Room with injuries to his leg, authorities tell Maui Now. He remains at the hospital where he is receiving further care.
Surfer suffers minor scrapes in apparent shark encounter at Tavares Bay in Pāʻia, Maui

The woman reported to authorities that while she was surfing a shark she described as a 10-12-foot-long Galapagos shark bit her board and launched her into the air. She landed on the shark which then bit through her board leash, according to an account detailed by the state Department of Land and Natural Resources. Officials say she was able to get back onto her board and swim to shore without further incident.
Possible shark encounter in South Maui, search underway for missing woman at Keawakapu

The search resumes today for a woman who went missing Thursday while snorkeling in waters off of South Maui. The US Coast Guard is describing the missing individual as a 60 year-old female.

County officials say a 35-year-old man fell off his kite foil about 400 yards off shore of the beach canoe hale. As he was getting back on his board, a shark reportedly bit him in the back side of his upper leg. The man sustained 2- to 3-inch lacerations and was able to make his way back to shore.

Using new DNA barcoding technology, researchers at the University of Hawai‘i have determined a tiger shark caused fatal injuries to a 56-year-old Nāpili man, who was bitten at Maui’s Honolua Bay on Dec. 8. Separately, by measuring bite marks on the surfer’s board, they have determined the shark was approximately 14.3-feet-long.
