#State of the County

The community is invited to attend the 2026 State of the County Address, which will be presented by Mayor Richard T. Bissen, Jr. from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 5, at Maui Arts and Cultural Center’s Castle Theater. Doors open at 4 p.m.

The public is invited to attend the 2024 State of the County Address, which will be presented by Mayor Richard T. Bissen, Jr. at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, March 15 at Maui Arts and Cultural Center’s Castle Theater. Doors open at 5 p.m.

In his address, Mayor Bissen described work by his administration in priority areas of housing, water, infrastructure, economic development, and environment. He also discussed work to find a resolution surrounding the opening of the long-awaited Kūlanihākoʻi High School in South Maui.

Maui Mayor Michael Victorino delivered his State of the County address in hybrid fashion Wednesday evening from the Maui Arts & Cultural Center. His address included a mix of video and live remarks in which he highlighted several priorities moving forward.

Maui Mayor Michael Victorino’s third State of the County Address will be a virtual event, scheduled to take place at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 9.

Maui Mayor Michael Victorino delivered his 2020 State of the County Address on Tuesday night at the South Maui Community Park Gymnasium.  During a 40 minute address, the mayor highlighted accomplishments of his first year in office and present his key goals and initiatives for the year 2020.

In his 23-page speech, Mayor Alan Arakawa said that Maui County is financially stable, environmentally secure and economically resilient.

The Maui County Council unanimously approved, by a vote of 8-0, a $705.2 million budget for fiscal year 2018.

The Mayor discussed the expected loss of 650 jobs before the end of the year due to the cessation of sugar operations at Hawaiian Commercial & Sugar Company. Other recent issues facing the county include the 5,000 acre brushfire at Kahikinui, severe flooding that forced the closure of the main DMV service center in Kahului, and a road that the Mayor said, “threatens to slip into the ocean,” in East Maui.
